KALIKASAN
Initiated by our P.E. and Health teacher, Ms. Levate Zoleta, this pageant is a performance task in their Health subject where students showcase their creativity and resourcefulness through the art of fashion and designing. Each Student is required to dress themselves using recyclable materials that they can find in their homes and environment. This event helps the students to realize that objects and materials that are used before can be turned into something useful in our daily lives, just like creating Clothes and Costumes!
Mr. and Ms. Kalikasan is a platform of awareness to Children that even as young adults we can be of help to our beloved mother Earth by making things that are old and worn to something fresh and new!
WINNERS
"The dress that I wore during Mr. and Ms Kalikasan was made out of old magazines. to hold the magazines in place I sewed the old curtains and made it as a tube and skirt for me to stick and glue the folded magazines. "- Patricia Dris
"My costume was made of recycled newspapers, trash bags, and cardboard. The cardboard was used to shape the dress, and the base was the trash bags. For the shawl, I just winged it. I also added a painted newspaper flower to act as a "pin" to keep the shawl closed. I had many trials and errors before getting my desired look but I managed to finish the dress in a span of 2 days!" - Reese Teves
"Heavily inspired by the Queen of Hearts from "Alice in Wonderland", this recycled dress made use of cards, cardboard, newspaper and old cloth. With lots of thought given into the concept and design, you'll find that the materials used for this were truly unconventional (like gallons of fabric conditioner, unconventional) Decorated with hearts im every which way, this outfit is one you'll surely love!" Zoe Frayco
"Darna, a hero in our country, inspired my costume. I wanted to portray myself as a warrior and environmental protector, just like her. The top of my outfit was made from sanitized disposable and washable face masks. They were glued together to form wings for my back and an armor-like bodice. The skirt was made out of empty detergent and conditioner plastic wrappers. These were cut and assembled to resemble multiple connecting swords, with old magazines used to fill in the gaps. The headband and bracelets were cut from the box and wrapped in powdered milk silver plastic. Two face masks were attached to each other to serve as my shoe accessories. The shield was built out of paperplates, bbq sticks and empty nut cracker plastic wrappers.
My shoe accessories were two face masks attached together. Paper plates, bbq sticks, and empty nut cracker plastic wrappers were used to construct the shield. " - Anrhea Salazar
"My dress was made out of Water lily leaves and sacks. The water lily leaves are leftover materials from the stylist which is also my mom's good friend who helped me to make my dress, and in order to collect a lot of sacks we went house to house just to provide enough sacks needed for my dress.I didn't need a lot materials for my dress since we didn't have much time, I just want my dress to be simple but unique." - Erich Pagaduan
"My hat was a representation po of an energy efficient lamp. I made it with used manila paper and folder and molded it with a KFC bucket. My vest was a sack with symbols of electricity. Then my pants po were a sack of dog food with added designs." - Enzo La'o
"I ate 100 Xo's yeah it's true and made a chain with the Xo's for the forearm and made patterns with soft drink plastic wrapper and magazine and made fringges with the magazine and Made a bow tie with the big xo plastic wrapper"
