BLKK is not functional right now.
Bangalore Lalit Kala Kshetra (BLKK) was founded by Mridula Menon in the year 2010. She was employed with Oracle as a Business Analyst in Bangalore, when the idea to launch an art school struck her. She quit her job and joined in with a partner to make this dream come true. Soon as she became more confident, she launched her own arts school, that is BLKK. Back in 2010 BLKK aimed at making art easily available for all, in an affordable manner.
It was not long before adults also started joining in as students. One of her first adult students Padmaja Nambiar, whose first statement was "I can't even draw a straight line". As Mridula gained more experience in teaching, she realized teaching in itself is an art and teachers must be familiar with human psychology to be able to cater to the neurodiversity of the students. Mridula went ahead and explored Reiki, Hypnotherapy, and Art Therapy to understand various therapeutic processes that help others to deal with stress, focus issues, and so on.
During the pandemic, this knowledge came in handy when both children and adults started feeling the need to de-stress and adopt some therapeutic methods of relaxation. It is during this time Mridula started conducting online classes on mindfulness through art. This became a huge hit amidst corporates like SAP, Salesforce, and a few others.
Today BLKK is proud to say that it touched the lives of 247 students in one way or the other.
Art therapy is a type of therapy that uses the creative process of making art to help people explore their emotions and express themselves. It involves using various art materials, such as paint, clay, and markers, to allow clients to communicate their thoughts and feelings in a nonverbal way.
Art therapy can be helpful for people of all ages and backgrounds. By creating art, clients can gain insight into their own psychological and emotional states, improve their self-esteem, and develop coping mechanisms for dealing with stress and trauma. The art that is produced can also serve as a visual representation of the client's inner world.
Art therapists are trained mental health professionals who use their expertise in both art and psychology to guide clients through the art-making process and help them achieve their therapeutic goals. Art therapy can be used as a complementary treatment for mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
