Hello everyone, my name is Katrina! I was born in Hong Kong and raised in the SF Bay Area. I have been with SFYAD since 2016 and have since served as SFYAD's event officer. I had the opportunity to spend some time at the Fo Guang Shan main monastery in Taiwan in 2018 at the Tsung Lin University studying Buddhist studies. Since then, I have been a part of the translation team for the book series Buddha-Dharma Pure and Simple and work closely with our regional translation team to provide translation. I hope to be able to serve you as a committee member so we can be able to push SFYAD past old boundaries and set new ones. Thank you!
Hi, everyone. My name is Kinson Huang. I grew up in Guangzhou, China and immigrated to San Francisco eight years ago. I have graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a major of East Asian Religion, Thought, and Culture. I plan to join the US Navy. I have been studying Buddhism for about eight years. As my life experience accumulates, I feel more and more resonant with Buddhism. In fact, I plan to work by providing religious service in the US Navy to apply and propagate Buddhism.
In my free time, I enjoy swimming, reading inspiring books, and meditating. For music I enjoy classical music and background music of movies and Japanese animations. Also, I have started to learn singing recently!
I see SFYAD as a lighthouse which could guide the hearts of young people as well as the general public in the Bay Area. In this competitive place, SFYAD serves as a spiritual home to let young people understand themselves better and how they could serve the communities.
I’ve been a member of SFYAD for around 3 years now and am very passionate about YAD. I’ve attended many events over the years and experienced all of the wonderful things that SFYAD has to offer such as opportunities to learn about Buddhism, gaining wisdom, and making good friends. I enjoyed participating in the planning committee for the 2021 New Year’s Party as well as the Buddha Dharma Pure and Simple Translation and Editing team for the past year. It was a great experience to be part of teams to plan fun events and advance Humanistic Buddhist teachings. My aspirations for YAD are to continue having fun and meaningful events, an inclusive and welcoming community, spreading Buddhist teachings, and expanding and cultivating our membership.
