Dear Parents:
Welcome to the 2022/2023 school year! I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and provide you with some information as to what you and your child can expect in my English Language Arts class.
My Background:
I, myself, am a Blair Oaks graduate. I continued my education at Lincoln University and then went on to obtain my Master’s in Education at William Wood’s University. I am certified in the areas of Social Studies, Communication Arts, and Art. This year marks my seventeenth year in education. I began my teaching career at Saint Joseph’s Catholic School in Pilot Grove, MO, and taught there for two years. I then moved to Lewis and Clark Middle School, where I taught for seven years. Last year was my eighth year teaching at Blair Oaks. I have truly enjoyed working in a district that supports teachers and students over the past eight years! You, the parents, and the students have been wonderful to work with and I look forward to working with all of you this year!
In addition to being an educator, I have also published three children's books: Anna's Special Gift, Curly the Cow, and My ABC Bible Book. In addition to writing, I enjoy baking and decorating cakes for my family. Basically, I love to create! It is my hope to help my students tap into their own creativity.
My husband, Brian, and I reside in Saint Thomas. We have three beautiful daughters, Kaylee, Cassie, and Katelyn who are our world.
Me, As a Teacher:
As a parent, I know that your child means the world to you, and you want to know how your child is doing emotionally, socially, and academically. I will contact you if there are ever any concerns in any of those areas. I also want you to feel free to contact me. The best way for you to reach me is through email. Please understand that I may not be able to give you an immediate response since I will be working with students most of the day, but I will get back with you as soon as I can. You may also call the school and leave a message for me if I am unavailable.
Throughout this school year, your child can expect to work hard in a safe and productive learning environment. I believe that every child can succeed with the proper support from both you and me. I believe that each failure is an opportunity for growth. I believe that a child's best effort is something to be proud of. The following pages will provide you with insight as to how my classroom will operate. Please also note, as a teacher I am reflective. If something is not working well, I will change it so that students can have a better learning experience.
I truly look forward to working with you and your child this school year. I know by working together, we can make great things happen for your child.
Sincerely,
Rachel Schulte
