Counseling Classes
I meet with all of the students in their classrooms regularly throughout the year for our Counseling classes. In these classes, I cover a variety of topics that pertain to students' academic, career, and social/emotional development. The topics covered align with the specific needs of the students in our building. In these classes, students also have exposure and opportunities to practice various mindfulness techniques.
You can find a list of the topics I plan to cover with students throughout the year on the Counseling Topics tab and a document which includes a description of the mindfulness techniques we are using on the Resources tab.
Individual Counseling
I am available throughout the school day to meet with students individually, whether it is for a scheduled weekly visit or a need that arises. The scheduled weekly visits allow for me to check in with students and see how they are doing each week. These visits typically occur when students are not in their core classes so they will not miss out on important instructional time. Students have the option to request an individual meeting with me at any time if a need arises.
On the Resources tab, you can find the form students can fill it out when they would like to request a meeting with me.
Small Group Counseling
I work with students in small group settings and am able to get in at least one or two rounds of small groups throughout the year. With each round of small groups, there is one small group per grade level with 5-6 students in each and we focus on a specific topic for about 6-8 weeks. The topics vary and are determined based on the needs of the students in each grade. Small groups are a great way for me to reach more students and provide them with additional support.
Minute Meetings
I am able to check in with every student in our building at least two times throughout the year during my minute meetings. These involve having a short meeting with each student both at the beginning of the year and halfway through the year. These meetings allow me to connect with every student as well as give them the opportunity to feel seen and heard. They are also a great way to get to know students better and help me identify which students I might need to meet with again or check in with regularly.
