Thank you for volunteering to become a BFriender. It is brilliant to have you on board. This project is part of a wider programme of activity called the ‘Know Your Neighbourhood Fund’ which has been funded by the Government. A core aim of the Fund is to identify ways to encourage volunteering, improve social connections and increase pride in local communities. We hope that you come out of this experience with new skills, improved confidence and new friendships.

The purpose of the Befriending volunteer role is to make contact with lonely and isolated individuals through regular telephone or face to face conversations, by way of home visits, meetings in the community or supporting to a friendship group.
The results of befriending can be very significant. Befriending often provides people with a new direction in life, opens up a range of activities and leads to increased self-esteem and self confidence for both Befriender and Befriendee. Befriending can also reduce the burden on other services.
We encourage all volunteers to start their learning journey by undertaking the National Volunteer Certificate which underpins the induction you will do as a volunteer.
The aim of the National Volunteer Certificate is to ensure that all volunteers in health and social care, have the same basic learning when you start in your role. Completion of induction training supports the process for ensuring that you are safe in the volunteering environment.
Join us at one of our weekly Friendship groups - Meet new friends and have a chat over a brew. Join in and have fun with a full range of activities or simply come along to find out what further support is available.
