Commitment to Student Success
The Blackburn and Beyond Program includes an individually determined program of study for each student, based on that student's personal and career goals, necessary supports, and the involvement of each student in all aspects of the college experience including extracurricular and other campus activities to promote social relationships and friendships on campus. It is necessary for the success of the students that careful attention be given to providing academic coaches and mentors on campus to coordinate individualized support and to assist students applying for financial aid.
Commitment to Accessibility
Students who enroll in Blackburn and Beyond (CTP program) may be eligible for certain types of aid. Included are Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, student loans, and private scholarships.
The Blackburn and Beyond Program is inclusive. This means that:
Blackburn and Beyond students attend their courses with other university students.
Blackburn and Beyond students attend clubs, ball games, and other campus activities with other university students.
Blackburn and Beyond students have full access to all university programs and services.
The Blackburn and Beyond Program is person centered. This means that:
Blackburn and Beyond students determine their academic, career, personal, and social goals throughout their enrollment in the Program.
Blackburn and Beyond students determine the amount of supports they need to be successful.
The curriculum is individualized based on the student’s goals and interests.
The Blackburn and Beyond Program is mutually beneficial. This means that:
Blackburn and Beyond students help teach other students about intellectual disabilities.
Blackburn and Beyond students help professors develop universal design for learning strategies to meet their students' needs.
The Blackburn and Beyond Program is a Comprehensive Transition Postsecondary (CTP) program. This means that:
Blackburn and Beyond students are eligible for FAFSA, or financial aid
Blackburn and Beyond students work on campus with student supervision
