Late/ Missing Work Policy

I believe that middle school is the most important transitional period of anyone's life, in that, it is the time when we develop our capacities for individual responsibilities and expectations. Because of this, I have a hard-fast rule on communication as it pertains to missing work..

Though I send out VERY frequent updates, messages through remind, and keep my website frequently updated, there will still be questions throughout the year that you have about your student's experience in my classroom. I am only an email away when these times arise!

However, know that I will only discuss missing or make-up assignments with parents once the student has contacted me through any mode available to them, digital or in person. (Of course, there will be emergencies and I will do whatever I can to get the student what they need if this is not possible!)

Late work will not be accepted on a general basis. The exemptions to this are sometimes objective, but work not turned in when it is due will not be accepted for credit UNLESS prior arrangements are made with me if the student believes they will need extra time. Assignments that are accepted, for reasons discussed prior to the deadline, will not incur a penalty. Assignments accepted late, for reasons of academic need, with no excused reasons discussed prior to the deadline, will be deducted 20% from the earned grade.

Missing assignments will be calculated as a zero in the grade book on the due date and updated when the assignment is received UNLESS the student is absent when it was assigned. They then have time to make it up equal to the time missed. Zeroes will be entered if work is not turned in by the new due date.

Students are responsible for retrieving missed assignments upon absences on the day that they return unless asked for before or during the absence.. Makeup time automatically starts when the student returns. You may also request missed work in the event of an absence if you want to pick it up for them!

Grading Policy

Formative Grades= 30% of total grade.

These assignments include, but are not limited to, practice assignments completed during the instructional phase of any new concept.

Summative Grades= 70% of total grade.

These assignments include quizzes, tests, essays, projects, and other final assignments.

In the event of an absence, any work assigned DURING THE ABSENCE will be available on our class websites (Google Classroom and my Bixby School website) and due back in class after the same number of days missed. Work assigned BEFORE a student's absence will maintain the same due date. If student is absent on due date, work will be due back the day the student returns. (Extenuating circumstances WILL be considered upon student request and discussion!)
