Class Overview

Athletic Performance is a fitness class that will help students to build stamina, tone/strengthen muscles, and enhance their cardiovascular endurance. This course will provide an understanding and personal appreciation of the relationship of physical activity and fitness to health; so that the individual will select an appropriate personal lifestyle necessary to produce optimal lifelong health and wellbeing.

Student Participation:

· Students are expected to participate in ALL class activities

· If a student is to be excused from participation in class, a note from a parent must be brought to verify illness or injury.

· If the illness or injury lasts more than two days a doctor’s note is required.

· If a student is to be excused from class for more than three days they will be given an alternative written assignment for their daily grade.

Dress: (Dress code will still be in effect)

· Dress in appropriate athletic attire (shorts or sweatpants and t-shirt). No joggers.

· Wear proper athletic shoes (we will be running outside).

· Students must be completely dressed to gain all suit out points.

· We prefer students to change out of their daily school attire.

Lockers:

Gym lockers and locks will be available for each student to use during the semester. They will be allowed to keep their belongings in their locker throughout the day and overnight if they choose to have a lock. Students should take their cloths, towels, and etc. home at least once a week. At the end of the semester the lock is to be returned or a $5 lost lock fee will be assessed. (A student may use a locker for the hour if they don’t want to check out a lock. We just ask students not to leave anything in an unlocked locker overnight.)

Grading:

Grades are allocated on a point system. There is no curve. Students are not solely graded on ability but on effort and participation. Students receive thirty (30) points for suiting out properly and seventy (70) points for daily participation and ability to follow class rules/directions. (If a student chooses not to suit out they still will be required to participate.) If they do neither they will receive a zero for the day. Class sizes are large and at times we will be combined with another class. Horseplay will not be tolerated and your child will be sat out and receive a zero for the day. Excessive absences will require make up work. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for, complete, and turn it in. Any work not turned in will result in a zero.

CELL PHONES AND GUM/FOOD/CANDY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED (There will be a deduction toward their grade)!
