All staff in the Primary School have a @bisvietnam.com account. This will be used to access both the Microsoft account used mostly for administration and emails, and the Google account which is primarily used as an educational tool for Google Classroom and the like. This account use will require multi-factor authentication (MFA) initially. More details regarding MFA will be provided by the ICT Team on arrival.
At the Early Years and Infant Campus, school times are as follows:
Fundino - 10:15 (Mon, Thurs, Fri) or 11:15 (Tues & Weds)
F1, F2, F3, Years 1 and 2 - 14:50
F1 and F2 half day program ends at 12:00
At Juniors Campus, school ends at:
14:20 Years 3 and 4.
14:30 Years 5 and 6
Note that some pupils will then attend an after school activity depending on the day. There are also Vietnamese classes for Vietnamese children for up to 3 hours per week depending on age. Please check details of when these are with the Vietnamese Coordinator.
EY and I Campus
Children are taken to the front gate for their buses by their Teaching Assistants. The Bus Manager and bus supervisors take the register. Bus monitors collect their children from the bus lines and they are escorted onto their bus.
Juniors Campus
For Years 3 to 6, students go to the staging area for registration; this is currently the canteen. Bus assistants will then assume responsibility for children not involved in after school activities. Bus monitors will then walk students to the buses from 2:45pm in readiness to depart at 3pm on a normal run, or 4pm for the late CCA buses.
Class TAs will take the children to their extra curricular clubs 10 minutes after end-of-day, whilst non-bus children will go to the small field under the supervision of the teacher until collected by their parent, driver or helper.
Any children who are due to go home but have not been collected 10 minutes after end-of-day should be taken to the designated late-room (Reception at EY&I and canteen at Juniors) where a late duty teacher is allocated. If a child is not collected by 15:15 at the EY&I and 15:00 at the Juniors, then they will be taken to the office by the late room-duty teacher. The pupil’s name should be recorded in the late book from 2:55pm (Juniors). A letter will be sent home to habitual offenders by the DHoC.
No children should leave the school unless accompanied by a recognised guardian who has the child’s swipe card, unless the school office has been informed in advance and there is written evidence of this. If a student card is not able to be presented, a recognition slip must be completed by the person collecting the student at the desk outside the canteen (Juniors) or the reception (EYIC).
As there will be a lot of movement on the stairs, the children may need to be reminded of the rules from time to time – keep to the right, do not push or overtake, etc. All staff are responsible for monitoring this.
We are a busy school! During the year, there are a number of campus and school-wide events in which the children participate.
International Week
This is a time when we celebrate the diverse cultures of the school’s community. Children and staff are encouraged to come in their national costume or a traditional outfit that represents their country (e.g. Morris Dancer, Cowboy, swagman) or colours representing their country.
Vietnamese Celebrations
In recognition of our host country, there will be activities focusing on Vietnam taking place at appropriate times throughout the year. On these occasions staff are encouraged to come to school in traditional Vietnamese costumes. Traditional dress comes in the form of an Ao Dai which can be worn by both men and women. Guidance for appropriate Vietnamese dress can be sought from the TAs or any Vietnamese member of staff.
Sports Day
This is held annually on different days for the various Year Groups. Our Sports Days are both competitive and ‘fun’. All children are encouraged to participate and house points are given for non-athletic as well as athletic achievements. There is a cup for the winning house.
Swimming Gala
This is held annually, again on different days for the various Year Groups, and again is a ‘fun’ as well as a competitive event. All children are encouraged to participate with a trophy awarded to the winning house.
Performances, Productions and Special Assemblies
Throughout the year there are performances, productions and special assemblies involving different groups of children, usually representing a class, Year Group or section. All children will participate in at least one performance each year.
Curriculum Evenings
In addition to the Curriculum Evenings organised for the beginning of the academic year, other evenings may be organised throughout the year to help inform parents about specific areas of the curriculum or new school initiatives.
End of Year Celebrations
We like to celebrate the achievements of the children by organising a ‘Leavers’ Assembly’ for our Year 6 pupils. We also take the opportunity at a special assembly to say ‘Goodbye’ to those children and staff who are leaving us.
Here at BIS HCMC, we have a very comprehensive health insurance programme as part of your employment package. Whilst we do not endorse either of the following clinics are safe and offer world class facilities.
Children should receive homework in accordance with the school’s Homework Policy. The homework should be listed either in the children’s diary, a class newsletter, class blog. It should have clear instructions for parents as to what the objective of the activity should be and when appropriate, be differentiated to suit the needs of the children.
Children and parents should be aware of the purpose for a set homework and given any guidance that could be helpful. They should know when homework needs to be completed or, if it is an extended piece of work, when each stage is to be completed.
Children should receive feedback on their homework, either verbally or with a written comment.
Parents should be encouraged to offer feedback about homework via the children’s diary or comment on the class blog.
There is a House system in school. Every child is assigned to a ‘House’ on entry to the school: – Hanoi (red), Saigon (blue), Hue (yellow) or Dalat (green).
Children can earn house points for work, attitude and achievements at the teacher’s discretion.
Class totals will be collected weekly by class teachers and transferred onto a supplied spreadsheet so they can be collated and added to the school house chart at assembly. Scores need to be made easily available. This on-going total is always a great source of speculation and excitement at the assembly.
The ‘House Cup’ will be presented to the house with most points, and a special reward given at the end of each term.
