“This is my 21st year of coaching Horizon 8th grade A volleyball. I love the game of volleyball and enjoy coaching hardworking kids. Horizon is a strong volleyball school so my teams are always competitive which also makes coaching a lot of fun” -Mark Hager

That’s a huge compliment to all the volleyball girls that play! We interviewed some of the A1 and A2 8th grade volleyball girls and Mark Hager the coach. It seems like Horizon has done pretty great this year from what we heard from the players. The girls on A1 said that it has been a “Pretty good we have lost to wachter once and we are undefeated otherwise” says Logan Nissley. Which that is pretty impressive since the other schools are really good competition, but sadly Friday night was the A1 tournament and A1 did lose to wachter again in the championship game. Horizon won the first match and wachter won the seconded and last set, they were all extremely close games through which made it fun to watch! The A2 games which were thursday went very well too they also took 2nd against wachter, they had really close games. A2 won one set then wachter won the last two. Both A teams did extremely well this season but sadly couldn't pull out the win.

At the beginning of the season both A1 and A2 were winning game after game except when A2 lost to simile but ended up beating them later on, A1 on the other hand lost against watcher but Mr Hager put in a different line up so that they would maybe lose so they wouldn't go into the season undefeated and everyone trying to beat them. The girls have really improved this year Ava Abryzo said “I think as a player I've improved on my hitting and power as a player and as a person I've improved by having a better attitude and being able to keep my head up”. What I got from what the girls said about is that volleyball is a really good sport to get you in shape and help you grow as not only a player but also as a person and that you make a lot of good friends from playing sports.

“The best team isn´t the team with the best players, but the team that plays best together” -Jayden O’dell. In all horizon has some great players and teammates!

Golf

“Golf is a great way to bond with family and friends” says Leah Herbel. In golf we just broke a school record to have an 8th grader win state for golf. Her name is Hannah Herbel (Leah’s sister.) Leah says “Hannah did such a good job! I’m so proud of her and my team!” Hannah says “winning state as an 8th grader was a dream come true!” They are both so proud of themselves and their team.

Hannah and Leah have been playing golf since they were seven years old. Hannah says “this summer is the hardest I’ve worked to improve on golf.” So I guess hard work really does pay off over the seven years of playing.

Since the girls golf team was not doing so well the past years and after taking 3rd last year Hannah and Leah really wanted to change things around and start winning, and that’s exactly what they did! They won state this year and also having Hannah winning first overall was the greatest accomplishment ever!

Hannah says in the future “I would really like to get a golf scholarship and maybe be good enough to get on the LPGA team!” On the other hand Leah says “I want to have a very successful high school career, but I am not sure about playing in college or at the professional level.”

You don’t get what you wish for, you get what you work for- unknown. We thought this was the perfect way to end, because the Herbel twins and the Century girls golf team really worked hard to get first.
