Music dropping in 2025
Find out when the most anticipated albums will be releasing this year
ARTS AND CULTURE | January 2025
It will certainly be an eventful year for the music industry. Big names, such as Lil Baby, The Weeknd, and Tate McRae, are all preparing to drop albums very early into the year. Lil Baby will be releasing “WHAM (Who Harder Than Me)” on January 3, the Weeknd will be releasing his album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” on January 24, which will be the last piece of the trilogy alongside his previous albums “After Hours” (2020), and “Dawn FM” (2022), and McRae will be unraveling her third studio album “So Close to What” on February 21.
The surface is only scratched with those three artists as some albums are yet to have a release date but will arrive sometime in 2025, such as “Bully” that will be made by Kanye West. It will be his 38th musical production. Another hip-hop artist projected to release an album in 2025 is Playboi Carti’s long-awaited album “I Am Music.”
Inching away from the rap genre, we have the popular Indie group The Lumineers who are releasing their first album since 2019 titled “Automatic”, which will come out on Valentine's Day. Another Indie group, Franz Ferdinand, who had their song “Take Me Out” go viral on TikTok last year, will publish their new album The Human Fear on January 10.
The music coming out in 2025 will be expected to be up to par with all the other exceptional music released in the 2020’s. There still might be a few artists that will drop but haven't put out a release date. With all the big names releasing their albums, everyone should happily listen to the genres they love without wanting more music because of how many artists will be publishing music this year.
Freshman Bryn Griffiths said that he is the most excited for The Lumineers' album to drop because "I listen to them all the time, and they haven't put out an album in forever."
Patton Swenson is a freshman and a first-year writer for the Century Star. Swenson plans on strengthening the Star's sports section.“I want people to know that everyone can read the newspaper, no matter who you are,” he states. Swenson is a two-sport athlete, playing basketball in the winter and running track in the spring. He dabbles in disc golf in the fall and competes across the Bismarck-Mandan area. However, when he isn’t busy with sports or with friends, he’s writing. Swenson plans on using the student body in all of his writings because, “the students are the ones reading the Star, so why shouldn’t they be in the Star?”
Swenson prides himself in his academic ability, and his merits include being a part of the middle school honor roll and earning the Presidential Academic Award in 2021...
