Patton Swenson is a sophomore and an editor for the Century Star. Swenson previously wrote his freshman year and plans on continuing to strengthen the sports section of the Star. “This year, my goal is to improve the quality of my writing, and I want to branch out to different sports,” Swenson said.
Swenson is a two-sport athlete; he plays basketball for Century in the winter and has transitioned from distance running to high-jump in track. Since he has no fall sport, he spends his time on homework and working out at Proximal50 Athletics. Swenson has a side hustle of reselling sports cards. “I’m going to use the money I make off sports cards to help pay for my college tuition,” Swenson said.
Swenson prides himself in his academic ability, and his merits include being a part of the honor roll both semesters and earning the Presidential Academic Award. He plans on being a part of the National Honors Society and aspires to be a journalism major at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York.
Swenson’s long-term goal is to acquire an internship at ESPN in their content department. In school, he has found major success in the English classroom, often getting high grades on creative writing assignments as well as essay writing assignments.
Swenson’s favorite hobby aside from sports and writing is listening to music. He has a playlist with 1,300 songs that has genres, such as alternative, folk rock, country, rap, jazz and reggae. A few artists that stuck out as his favorites were Jack Johnson, Deftones, Drake, Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, The Lumineers, and Lord Huron.
