Patriots face Davies in final football matchup
Sports | February 2026
The North Dakota state championship game of the 2025 high school football season was between the Century Patriots and Fargo Davies and ended in a score of 19-42
The Century students, who were on the opposing side of the winning team with a score of 19, claimed there was no chance due to some issues with the refereeing.
“The refs could’ve done better,” sophomore Kiyah Chapman said.
There was a steady pace of points during the first half.
Though the Davies may have scored the first touchdown, the Patriots soon tied that score.
The game continued this way throughout the first quarter, but as the second quarter neared, the game started to slip out of the Patriots' hands.
The score gap continued to grow, yet the Patriots still pushed through.
At the near end of the second quarter, the Patriots got a touchdown.
After this, their score stayed the same while the Davies continued to widen the margin. The Patriots were still in the game and were playing hard, but their defense seemed to be lacking.
“If we just picked up our defense, we’d have had a pretty good shot at winning the game,” said freshman lineman Nicholas Murdock.
The start of the second half promised some sort of change, though that change was far from achieved; it was very close. The Patriots picked up the game, gaining multiple first downs.
There were no touchdowns during this quarter. However, before this quarter, it was just repeated touchdowns from the Davies while the Pat-riots stayed stuck, so that still counted as a little victory for the Patriots.
The fourth quarter started the same as the third with many first downs.
As the game went on, not very far from the end, the Patriots got a touchdown, finally moving from 13 to 19, which was their score against the Davies for the rest of the game
Even though there was over a 10-point difference as Davies ended with 41 points, Century refused to give up, and they have hope that the next football season will be better and they will not lose to Davies again next year.
“Yeah, this is our last loss. We will never lose again,” said Murdock.
