Parents and guardians cannot log in to view classes with their personal email accounts. Though some learning management systems, such as Canvas, have a separate log in for parents, Google Classroom is only meant for students to log in. Parents, however, can get "guardian summaries." These are emails that detail what has been assigned for the week, as well as any work that that is missing or turned in late. Missing and late work email notifications only happen if the work has a due date. CLICK HERE to go to the Google Classroom page and watch the video "How to Set Up Guardian Summaries Emails" in the Extra Credit section if you would like to see how to get those emails automatically sent to parents/guardians.
You'll need to change the end of the link to /copy. Not sure how? CLICK HERE to go to the General Tech Tips and Tricks tutorials page and look at any of the first three tutorial topics.
You will need to select the text in the omnibar (where you type the link to a website) and paste it into the lesson. If you are unsure how to do this, CLICK HERE to go to the General Tech Tips and Tricks page and watch the first part of the "Compare Preview, Force Copy, Template View, and Export as PDF" video.
After you paste a link, click on it once. Look at the very bottom of the box that pops up (you may need to scroll down to see it). Then click on the option to replace the link with the file name. If you are unsure how to do this, CLICK HERE to go to the General Tech Tips and Tricks page and watch the video called "How to Add a Link to Text."
You'll need to create the Meet session at meet.google.com with a nickname and share the nickname with the students. Any links (e.g., meet.google.com/aaa-bbb-ccc) created in Google Calendar stay LIVE, and students can continue to enter those "rooms" without you there. For more information, CLICK HERE to go to the Google Meet page and look at the information under the heading "Using Google Meet with Students." There are multiple ways you can invite students using the Meet nickname.
You can't create the Meet nickname directly within Google Calendar (and don't use that "Add conferencing" button when meeting with students!), but you can create an invitation in Google Calendar that sends emails to the students, then write the Meet nickname in the notes section of the calendar event. For more info, CLICK HERE to go to the Google Meet page and watch the video titled "Create a Google Meet with Students in Google Calendar."
