2024-2025 Schedule
Name: Angela Long
Food: I have been Gluten Free for about 14 years and sadly this is the life for me. I love my carbs, but have to really watch what I eat and read every label to make sure there isn't hidden gluten (my body will tell me if there is). I don't miss the side affects that gluten gave me and I can't complain too much because I still enjoy my love of most Mexican food!!
Drink: 1/2 lemonade & 1/2 unsweet tea
Birthday: May 15
Hobbies: Spending time with my family, doing craft projects, painting, and reading.
Song: Too many to list and I love all genres!
Books: "A Wrinkle in Time," "The Secret Garden," "The Book Thief," "The Rent Collector," and many more!
Movie: "Amadeus", "The Notebook", "Wizard of Oz", and "Marry Poppins"
Collections: I love, LoVe, LOVE office supplies -I think I might even be a teacher just because I get excited about all the back to school supplies!! I also love old keys, anything crafty, and just about anything that is black and white!
Hello! My name is Angela Long and I am so excited to be part of the Academy Amarillo team! More importantly, I am THRILLED to be your child’s teacher! I know each one of them has been placed in my class for a reason. This year will be filled with tons of learning and new adventures, such as our 4th grade trip to Austin/San Antonio. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store. I want to know all about your child, but first I’m going to tell you a few things about me.
I am married to an amazing man, Paul. We met in 1992 and married in 2001. We have 2 beautiful girls; Kennedy is going to 12th grade (senior) and Payton is going to 9th grade (freshman), both at CHS. I have my own headstrong child and fully understand that each parent is doing their absolute best to raise their own special child. Knowing that we are each doing our best, any and all conversations we have this year will be out of love and wanting your child to achieve to their highest potential. I also have two dogs, Rosa and ND (New Dog), two ball pythons (Bean and Apollo), a False Cuban Cameleon- a grumpy onld man named Basil, as well as some chickens. It is always busy around our house and never a dull moment!
I graduated from University of Texas in Arlington in 2005, and began teaching Kindergarten in Mansfield. I loved it there and taught kindergarten for 3 years, but wanted my family to live and grow up more in the country so we moved to Burleson. This will be my 17th year at the Academy and 20th year to teach. I taught on the kindergarten/1st grade loop for 5 years and this will be my 12th year to teach 4th grade. Currently, I hold certifications in Early Childhood – grade 4 and ESL (English as a Second Language) generalist. We had been fortunate at this school for many years in the past to have had the opportunity to attended several Brain Conferences to learn current research about how the brain works and the impact this has on learning. Along with this, I am constantly reading and researching best practices in teaching. Frequently, I have shared my experiences from these conferences with the school staff. Technology is also a love of mine and had been the coding club teacher for many years here at the Academy. I incorporate technology in learning, but always make sure it is purposeful and not just for the sake of technology.
You may have heard that the jump from 3rd to 4th is large. I am expecting more maturity and responsibility than was expected last year. They are responsible for getting papers signed and for organizing their backpacks and lockers. Throughout the year, I ask you to keep this in mind and if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Lastly, I want you to know that I truly care for your child. It is important to me to build relationships and get to know each of your children as individuals and as part of the whole in our classroom. I look at each and every one of them as they were my own. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding how I can help your child. We are in this together. Thank you for all you do to support your child and all the amazing help you are willing to give throughout the year! This is going to be an incredible year, and I feel blessed to have your family in our classroom.
I am looking forward to a great 4th grade year!
