To say our annual visit to Nepal is life changing feels too short and understated. It may be more appropriate to say that those who have been on the Nepal teams will have had a life informing and motivating experience.
The Birkdale Nepal team focus on a range of projects throughout the academic year, including the unique school expedition to Nepal, during the Easter term. Working in partnership with our Nepalese friends and RNV Nepal, a UK Charity (1197238), we raise funds, design educational programmes and prepare for scientific collaborations that develop strong relationships between our communities.

The Nepal partnership projects (NPP's) are a collaboration between Birkdale school, our Nepalese friends at the Peace Garden School, Noble School and Durga School, RNV Nepal and individuals who join with us to promote the development of all our communities, in the UK and Nepal. The projects come from an educational heart, led and developed by educators from the UK and Nepal, these projects aim to advance the education of the students involved whilst also focussing on specific areas of development, within the Nepalese communities.
At Birkdale our passion for education allows our teachers to embed themselves in their specialisms and from this the NPP's have grown. The Nepal Health Checks, for example, were established in the early 2000's by Birkdale schools expedition and a group of UK doctors that accompanied the trip. Led at that time by Keith Brook, a biology teacher by trade, the principle of triage health checks has continued ever since.
Further connections over the last 25 years have been established and we now see a range of NPP's and a growing commitment to the evolution of what our Nepalese friends at the Peace Garden School call, 'Birkdale in Nepal'.
The quality of our students knows no bounds. Fergus Cooke made this documentary in 2023, charting the journey of the Birkdale team as we returned to Nepal after a 3 year gap during the pandemic era.
Honest, humorous and eye catching, this film transports you to Nepal with a quality that exceeds many professional documentaries; at times it is hard to believe that this film is the work of a 17 year old on a 'school trip'.
