Your student will be marked as absent. Please see our policy on attendance and tardy behavior. Their attendance is mandatory for all scheduled classes.
Your child will be asked to log in to at least two live classes through Zoom daily. Your child's teacher will be contacting you with details specific to their classroom. Students must agree and follow the expected Zoom behaviors, as this will allow teachers to maximize instructional time. Many of the expectations for zoom behavior are similar to what we would expect in school. For example, students must come to their zoom meetings with all of the required materials. Students should not eat during the class, and they should be respectful about taking turns when they have something to share with the group. Other zoom expectations can be found in the behavioral contract section on the home page of this website.
Students should be working the equivalent of a full school day. They should have a daily set schedule that they follow to help them stay in the school routine.
Students will only be on Zoom for a short period of time. They should eat at snack or meal before or after a class. They are NOT allowed to eat during class. If they have a drink, the drink should be covered to prevent accidental water damage to the technology.
Your child will be expected to have work handed in by the deadline assigned by the teacher. If they need extra time that needs to be worked out directly with the classroom teacher. Teachers will also inform parents of the metrics used to grade assignments in their class.
In order for your student to progress to the next grade, they are required to attend all specials. As an arts integrated charter school, this includes music, and art class. NH mandates a physical education requirement for students in K-6, and our grade 7&8 students are required to complete PE as well. All of our students in K-8 are taking Spanish, this is required as part of the Birches curriculum.
Services will be delivered by the district through a provider. The district will work on the specific details on how a student will receive instruction when they are on their remote learning days. Please reach out to your district directly with specific questions.
Teachers will check in with students on a regular basis, and if there is a zoom call as part of a class students will have access to the teacher. . If there is not a zoom component to a class on a particular day, teachers will have open office hours that students can meet with them. Students should reach out directly to teachers when they need help.
