Welcome Class Back To School Video
Welcome to Art 2020!
Here is everything you need to know about art this year at the Birches.
Art will start the week of September 14th!!!!
· Each student will receive an art bag with basic art supplies. Remote students should have their bags picked up at the school before the 14th. Hybrid students will get their bags on the first day of art class. Please think of these as your art room in a bag and keep track of your given materials. Bags for grades 4-8 students will have information on Google Classroom codes and Artsonia QR codes and pin numbers. ( All pin numbers have changed from last year.)
-If your child is remote, they will have additional supplies needed for upcoming projects and take the bags home. I will need to refill these from time to time and will let you know when that needs to happen.
-If your child is hybrid, they will keep these supply bags at HOME and bring them in on art class days, ensuring if we do need to go full remote, they can continue their assignments at home. ( plan to set a reminder on my phone when my boys have art class to help them remember)
* All art lessons will be online this year through Google classroom (4-8) or Seesaw (k-3).
-Remote students will view projects and complete assignments by the given due date. I will be available on Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00 for a live zoom meeting to connect with students and answer any questions. ( Only a 5 minute check in is required for remote students)

- Hybrid students will be doing a flipped classroom. This means on their remote days they will need to log in and watch intro lessons and project demonstrations. On in school days, they will come ready to work on their assignment. (Some classes will take place in the art room, some in their classroom depending on their project.) It will be vital that they come to class prepared having watched the assignment videos.
· I will be utilizing Artsonia even more this year, as they have created a system for teaching remote. Each student will need to have access to the free Artsonia App on their device. I need all parents to make sure they have granted permission in their account and the app is updated to 6.0.
- All remote students k-8 will be uploading finished work to Artsonia.
- All hybrid students 4-8 will upload finished work to Artsonia
- All hybrid students k-3 I will continue to upload for them.
(should we go full remote I will need k-3 parents to help with uploads from home)
This is important. All finished work must be uploaded to Artsonia not Seesaw or Google Classroom this year.
I really appreciate your patience as we navigate through these new and uncharted waters. I am always available for questions or suggestions at kellyh@birchesacademy.org.

Artsonia Class Portal
PARENTS – Our school is offering a way for students to submit their artwork to their Artsonia portfolio from home.
Your child can use iPads or similar devices (or even a browser) to photograph their own artwork, make edits and enter artist statements - all on their own! The artwork will be reviewed by the art teacher prior to being published.
Download the Artsonia 6.0 app in the Apple or Android app store, select the "Students" option, then scan the Access Code below (or manually type in the code). You can also go to www.artsonia.com/class on a browser if you don't have a compatible device.

Welcome to Kindergarten Art!
My name is Kelly Hawkes and I have the privilege of being your child’s art teacher here at the Birches Academy. Along with my assistant teacher Mrs. Skerry we look forward to having an amazing, if not unusual year in art. Remote students will access their curriculum and assignments through Seesaw. They will see a class for Kindergarten Art when they access Seesaw through their classroom teacher.
At the Birches, we use a program called Artsonia. Artsonia is an online art gallery that allows you to share your child’s art work with friends and family, and purchase keepsakes with your child’s art work on it. The gallery grows with your child, allowing them to look back at what they make this year when they are in 8th grade.
Please download the Artsonia app 6.0 onto your device. This will be necessary for students doing remote this year and for all students if we must go full remote.
I require all my art students to have an Artsonia gallery. You will be getting an email from Artsonia to grant permission for your child. I ask that you please do this. All children are given screen names to protect their identity.
We look forward to getting to know your new kindergartener. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. kellyh@birchesacademy.org.
