MSK sends the waste water from a sludge settling tank to a hydrocyclone via a submerged pump. The pump has a chamber on the lower side where mud is mixed with water. The chamber on the lower side prevents the entry of solid bodies with a diameter greater than 8 mm.
The cyclone separates the sludge from the water. The mud is collected in a filter bag. Clean water returns to the settling tank
Separated mud
A hydrocyclone has a side entry and two exits on the axis: the smaller one on the bottom and a larger one on the top. The conical shape of the cyclone, the centrifugal force and the pressure create an inversion of flow inside the cyclone
Internally, the centrifugal force is opposed to the resistance of the liquid, with the effect that larger or denser particles are pushed towards the inner wall of the cyclone.
The denser and thicker fraction generally comes out on the bottom, while the lighter or more fluid fraction comes out on the upper side.
