A: Anything!!! Our team of student call/text handlers is trained to help alleviate whatever stressors, tough situations, or crises that you may encounter during your time here at Binghamton. We are here to support you during all of college's ups and downs<3
Q: Is the SEEK helpline a confidential resource?
A: The SEEK helpline is a private resource, not a confidential resource. Our student call/text handlers will not share information with anyone outside of the organization and will only be shared up with their supervisor in specific circumstances. Your privacy is important to us, and any information you share on the line will be kept as private as possible.
Q: What kind of training do the students receive to prepare for this type of position?
A: The students accepted to be a part of the organization must complete a CDCI-accredited internship in which they learn various valuable skills from a certified Mental Health Counselor. The majority of the course revolves around Motivational Interviewing skills, a counseling approach proven to be effective through various psychological studies. All students are required to complete this course and complete various practices as well as a final exam to prove their readiness for this very important role. Here at SEEK, we take great pride in our skillful student helpers and are confident that they are very well-prepared to help those in need!!!
