Racist intentions are perpetuated through time. There were hundreds of interstate highway initiatives—countless projects cut through neighborhoods. When one looks at the chosen areas, more often than not, areas like Fairview, a predominantly black middle-class neighborhood, are bisected by the highway.
According to local historian Daniel R. Weinfeld, Greenburgh did not have nearly as much white flight as in other towns. Instead, there was white avoidance, the deliberate avoidance of non-white areas when looking for housing. This was driven by both realtors and prospective buyers.
According to the 2020 census, Fairview has an extremely high percentage of renters, while Edgemont has almost none. Not only does this affect the possibility for residents to grow generational wealth, it also means schools are getting less funding due to the link between school funding and property taxes.

MASS EXODUS OF WHITES OUT OF WOODLANDS PUBLIC SCHOOL
42% of Greenburgh Central School District's population is white, yet only 12% of Greenburgh Central School District's students are white. The total Hispanic population percentage in the District is 16.2%, whereas 43% of the student population is Hispanic.
The total Black population percentage in the District is 26.8%, whereas 37% of the student population is Black (2019-2020 Greenburgh Housing Authority).
The white exodus of Hartsdalians out of Woodlands is exemplified by the two private schools across from Woodlands: Maria Regina (78.6% white) and Leffel High School (100% white)

Right where the Edgemont school district ends (average income $247,000), a 75% Hispanic population with nearly half the average income ($132,105) begins.
