SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Facuty Service, 2023

I am a Professor of Economics at Binghamton University.  I served as Department Chair from 2016 to 2022 and previously as the Director of Undergraduate Studies from 2013 to 2015.  I have been serving as the Chair of the Faculty Senate's Budget Review Committee (BRC) since  2020 and  I received the  SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service in 2023.

I was the Chair of the Arts & Sciences University Personnel Committee (Arts & Sciences UPC) from 2022 to 2024.  I co-chaired Binghamton University's search for a new Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs in 2021-2022.  I previously served as the Chair of the All-University Personnel Committee (AUPC) in 2020-2021 and as the Chair of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee (FSEC) from 2018 to 2020.  I also served on SUNY's University Faculty Senate (UFS) from 2016 to 2019.    

I have a BS in Business Administration from Miami University in Ohio and I recently joined Miami's Economics Advisory Board (EAB).  I have MA and PhD degrees in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis.  As a graduate student, I was a Visiting Scholar in the Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. and I was a Brookings Research Fellow in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution in 1998-99.   Since joining Binghamton University in 1999, I have visited Syracuse University, Aston University, Lund University, and the University of Bremen.     

I received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014.  Over the course of my career, I have taught macroeconomics at all levels and I was the coordinator of the J.C. Liu Honors Thesis Program in Economics from 2016 to 2022 I was a member of the College Board’s Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee for AP Macroeconomics from 2014 to 2016. .    

My research interests are in macroeconomics and monetary economics, aggregation and index number theory, demand systems, and revealed preference.  My work has been published in journals such as Advances in Econometrics, Econometric Reviews, Economic Inquiry, Economic Modelling, Economics Letters,  European Journal of Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Stability, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Macroeconomics, Macroeconomic Dynamics, and The Manchester School.  I have also published in the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Review.        

My wife, Mingmei, also teaches economics at Binghamton University.   I love to read and travel and am a fan of all things related to the Grateful Dead.
