Billings Student Tribal Council
The Billings Student Tribal Council’s (BSTC) primary responsibility is to advocate and act as a leadership council representing the Indigenous youth in the Billings Public Schools. The primary purpose is to support, maintain, and encourage acceptance and respect for the Indigenous American cultures. BSTC was established to have a leadership team to coordinate activities and act as role models for students in Billings Public Schools in a respectful yet culturally appropriate manner.
The purpose of the Billings Student Tribal Council shall be:
Establish cultural awareness in the Billings School District
Co-organize the Billings Public Schools Powwow to promote knowledge, acceptance, and respect of the American Indian culture
Create, promote, and support an atmosphere of acceptance and respect among all students from all cultures.
Develop student initiative and responsibilities
Raise money through fundraising
Develop good citizenship and engage learners
BSTC consists of students from all three high schools (Senior, West, Skyview), Washington Innovation Center, and our Career Center. Students will be selected through an application process. The selection process includes:
being a sophomore, junior or senior
an engaged learner (in good academic standing)
having good character
strong leadership skills
skills for the student tribal council
being responsible and dependable
able to attend after-school meetings held twice per month (will be excused for other school activities)
participating in club and/or other Indigenous Education events in the district
participate in other Indigenous activities or events in our community.
