Reflective Practice is one important way of teacher to continuously enhance their professional development and skills. This is also used to reflect on oneself by also assessing if you're having a good strategy, methods in teaching not just for teachers but also for students to reflect on their own action in participating teaching and learning process. Reflective practice involves considering one's own experiences because it allows individuals to critically analyze their actions and decisions, learn from successes and mistakes, and gain insights into their behavior and thought processes. By engaging in this activity, a teacher as well as a student can develop a deeper understanding of their skills and behaviors.
Here is my answer to the discussion activity during the day of discussion.
Instruction: For this week's discussion: What is one or some reflection strategies mentioned in the reading that you want to try especially that you will soon embark on teaching internship?
NB: Your answer here is expected to form part of your e-portfolio (See AT3 Task Guide).
Based on the reading material, I learned that a teacher could improve practice and continue professional development through self-reflecting. It is essential since teachers are the greatest assets of any education system for me, I see that teacher are the one who make the school and education work well because a teacher can teach with or without a classroom, materials, etc. but a classroom and materials cannot he utilized properly to students' sake without a teacher. So teachers' development strengthen the value of education. Reflecting in education includes thinking about one’s practice especially in teaching. Based on the reading material this is a process where teachers think over their teaching practices, analyze how something was taught and how the practice might be improved or changed for better learning outcomes. By doing this educator can identify what works well and what needs adjustment, and this fosters a more effective learning environment. Knowing that reflective teaching enhances professionalism and ensures that educators remain adaptable and responsive to the diverse needs of their students.
Since we are nearing to 4th year and soon will embark on our teaching internship and it is very essential to reflect on what we already have and don't have as a future teachers so that we can make a change on ourselves to also make a change to the lives of our future students I think the reflection strategy that I want to try is the easiest way to identify the things that works on me me and the things that I need to improve reflective journal/dairy is something personal and this could remind us that of the things that we do every single time in our lives and help us keep in the possible right path to take. Additionally, I want also to try the teacher educator's feedback, since they are the one who have deep experience into teaching sometimes it is good to seek advice to a more knowledgeable others since they may share some strategies and good about you as well as things that you need to improve. And it is really good for example when I perform my very first demonstration theres a lot of points for improvement but even though they used frank words I don't take it as negative but instead I take a use of those comments to improve myself in teaching since this is a opportunity for me to improve myself. Another one is the peer observation in my case since I'm a student peer observation is also good since what they observe from me is also true because they see it and we also have critiquing during our demonstration much like teacher feedback it is also essential to hear from my colleagues. In addition to the strategies outlined in the reading material, I believe it is imperative to proactively seek out reflection strategies tailored to your individual needs. These personalized approaches not only empower you to initiate change but also provide ongoing guidance and support in your professional development journey.
