Beginning Band

Students in the Bibb County band program start Beginning Band in the 6th grade at Centreville Middle School where they learn the basic elements of reading music, producing a characteristic tone, instrument maintenance, and much more! Available instrument options are: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion (students learn both snare drum AND mallet percussion at the same time).

Beginning Band members will have two performance each year: the annual Christmas concert in December and our annual spring concert in late April or early May.

Advanced Band

The Advanced Band is a recent addition to the CMS band program. This ensemble is for students who have successfully completed Beginning Band and serves as a continuation of learning the fundamentals of playing a band instrument in preparation for joining the Purple Pride marching and Concert Band in 8th grade. Students in Advanced Band will be eligible to audition for university honor bands, District Honor Band, All-State Band, and participate in Solo & Ensemble festival.

Concert Band

Comprised of all instrumentalists in grades 8-12, the BCHS Concert Band serves as foundation of our band program and is active from November through May. The ensemble performs standard wind band literature, as well as the occasional pop, Broadway, or movie transcription. Concert Band members have the opportunity to perform in at the solo & ensemble festival, university honor bands, and to audition for district honor band and all-state honor band.

Marching Band

Comprised of 8th-12th graders, the Purple Pride features wind and percussion instruments, color guard, dance line, and majorettes. It is also the largest and most visible musical group on campus. The marching band supports our Choctaws through performing at all home and away football games, pep rallies, and select home basketball games. The band can also be seen marching in local parades. The Purple Pride has a long history of competitive excellence winning multiple Superior and Best-in-Class ratings each year.

Purple Pride band members are well rounded students. In addition to their musical achievements, band members are ranked high in their respective classes, are members of many clubs on campus, participate in local church youth groups, and are members of various athletic teams.
