The Baby-Sitters Club
By Sydney Goldman
This book should be read by people aged 6+. It isn't inappropriate and has reading words in the right spot for almost every age. It's also fun and has learning responsibilities, so someone around this age and more can read this to help them.
Kristy has the idea to make money by babysitting with a group of her friends who also do babysitting. She talks to her friends Mary Anne and Claudia at school about this idea. They all agree. Claudia knows a girl who just moved here from New York, and she asks Kristy if Stacy can join, too. Kristy reluctantly agrees, and they start their babysitting business from the start. They posted posters and their number around the town so people would call, and they did. They made good money, and their business was going great. But they also get prank calls, messy two-year-olds, and bratty kids. It is tough being a babysitter! They kept going on, Stacy became suspicious, and she acted weirdly. They keep going and start to develop relationships with the kids and have fun times with them that they finally get used to. They get their business running and a success!
Other books written by Ann M. Martin were Bummer Summer, The Summer Before, Abby's Twin, Mary Anne And The Little Princesses, and Claudia The Little Liar. Ann M. Martin won the Children's Choice Award in 1985 and the Newbery Medal Award in 2003.
Jenna Hagger, an author, says, "I remember I was kind of a chubby third-grader, and nobody was interested in me, but these books taught me about romance, friendship, divorce, and how girls can be empowered to create whatever it is they want to create." She gave this book five stars! Jo says, "This book is a comfort, and I have taken refuge in it during the last few days. I enjoyed the simplicity of the plot and the sweet characters, and it also reminded me of how much I wanted to start a babysitting club when I was a teen. I can't wait to move on to the next book, now!" Jo gave this book four stars.
The book can be compared to Bridge to Terabithia because The Babysitters Club's theme is friendship and sticking together. Leslie and Jesse have a friendship together, just like the Babysitters Club. Like Leslie and Jesse, they look out for each other and comfort each other.
This book is good, with ups and downs in fights or money. This book and the rest of the series taught me about friendship, romance, and how girls are empowered and beautiful the way they are; no one can change that. I read the series day and night, which taught me good things whenever I had free time. Even in my daily life, things improved with me by how I acted; I made more friends, and I felt more confident about who I was! I also loved this because of the pictures; I could understand what was going on visually, and I felt more intrigued by the book and wanted to read it more. I would give this a four-star rating. It is fantastic in many ways, and many people should read this book.
It Ends with Us is the Next Book to Read
By Brianna White
This fantastic book, It Ends With Us, was written by Collen Hoover. Recommended reading age is 13+. Lily didn't always have it handed to her, but she worked very hard. Growing up in a small town in Maine, she strived to be a neurosurgeon. After she graduated, a man suddenly came into her life. Everything slowly turned out to be too good to be true. Ryle had many characteristics, the most important of which was his soft spot for Lily. Now, Ryle has a "no dating" rule that confuses Lily, although he makes an exception for Riley. Riley is overthinking this relationship a ton, but the thoughts of Atlas Corrigan are flowing as well. Atlas is her first love and a passage to the life she left behind. As Atlas returns, everything Lily has built with Ryle now has a threat. Most people reading this book said it took them on a roller coaster of emotions. Here are some quotes from people who have read the book. "I honestly don't know how to feel. There are times I'm angry and times I'm sad. And then I'm both. It's the worst because war rages inside me, and the winning side keeps changing. How can it switch from denial to sorrow to fury to acceptance in a heartbeat." Other books by this author include Reminders of Him, Verity, Ugly Love, It Starts with Us, November 9, Regretting You, Hopeless, All Your Perfects, and Heart Bones.
In 2015, Hoovers' novel Confess won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance. This book was compared to The Housemaid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Twisted Love, and many others. This book took me on a ride of emotions, as many would say.
At the start of the book, I couldn't get into it, but I was destined to read it. Once I started reading this book, I noticed how things started to connect, and the book began to make sense. One thing I genuinely love about this book is the tension. This book keeps you on your toes and wondering but has a satisfying ending. I had huge doubts about this book, not only because of the start but also because of the storyline. The author showed me more once I read it instead of going off of the last page. I love this book and recommend it to everyone.
Matthew Stover's Revenge of The Sith
by David Rad
Star Wars Revenge of The Sith, written by Mathew Stover, is a book adaptation of Star Wars Revenge of The Sith. It replicates the story with added details and elements. It is also extremely reminiscent of the actual movie. At the start of the book, Palpatine gets "Captured" by the droid General Grievous and Count Dooku, both leaders of the droid army. Obi-Wan and Anakin send a few battalions of clones to rescue them. As they were in the process of rescuing Palpatine, Count Dooku interfered with their mission. Count Dooku began a duel against them. Anakin then won the duel and killed Count Dooku. After they killed Count Dooku, they had to escape the cruiser they were on, which was heavily guarded with battle droids and guards. They stumbled into a room with General Grievous and his guards. They killed the guards, and Grievous was about to die, so he ran into an escape pod. The ship was about to go down due to damage to the engines. The cruiser then fell to an airport in Coruscant. They then returned to their normal lives. After this, Anakin starts to dream of his girlfriend Padme dying in childbirth, and this scares Anakin heavily. He talked to a wise Jedi named Yoda, asking him for advice on what to do about his ordeal. Yoda tells him that when you fear the loved ones will die, you will become more connected to the dark side; Anakin understands this. Meanwhile, Anakin becomes trustworthy with Palpatine and listens to him often. During a conversation between Palpatine and Anakin, Palpatine reveals that he is knowledgeable in the dark side of the force. Anakin then threatens to behead him with a lightsaber, although Palpatine convinces him otherwise, and Anakin listens. After this, Anakin becomes furious because they allow him to receive a spot on the Jedi council despite his skill in the force and accomplishments. He is not granted the rank of Jedi master as well; this heavily ignites his anger. Meanwhile, they plan to send troops to Kashykk and Utapau to weaken the Separatists; they send the 212th Attack Battalion and Obi-Wan to Utapau to kill General Grievous. They also send the 41st Stormtrooper Legion as well as the 41st Scout Battalion along with Jedi master Yoda and hundreds of wookies to Kashyyyk. During this, Anakin encounters Palpatine, and they start a conversation. Palpatine tells Anakin about a Sith called Darth Plagueis and his ability to save the ones he loved most. He also told Anakin that the ability of Darth Plagueis is limited to only Sith and unobtainable to Jedi. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan, Commander Cody, and thousands of 212th troopers continue their manhunt for General Grievous. Obi-Wan encounters Grievous and challenges a duel between him. After a long duel, Obi-Wan shoots General Grievous near his chest, which causes him to light on fire. Meanwhile, Anakin tells another Jedi on the council named Mace Windu that Palpatine knows the dark side and is trying to pursue Anakin to practice the dark side. Mace Windu and numerous Jedi generals confront him to arrest him for treason. Palpatine neglects his guiltiness and trials for jail and ignites a lightsaber, starting a duel between Mace Windu and the Jedi generals. With his dueling skills and knowledge of the dark side, Palpatine easily kills the few Jedi generals, leaving only Mace Windu responsible for killing him. After this, Mace Windu corners him next to an open window. Anakin senses something bad is happening, so he interferes with the duel. As Mace Windu is about to execute him, Anakin tells Mace Windu that it's a bad idea, but he won't listen. Mace Windu is about to kill him, but suddenly, Anakin ignites his saber and cuts Mace Windu's hand off. He screams in agony, but then Palpatine electrocutes him with the force of lightning, throwing him out of the window and making Mace Windu dead. Anakin feels guilty for his actions, but it's too late; Palpatine declares Anakin as his apprentice and gives him the famous title Darth Vader. Soon after, Palpatine orders all clones to follow order 66, which is the command to kill all Jedi. As this galactic manhunt unfolds against all remaining Jedi, this makes many clones forced to kill hundreds of Jedi. Anakin and his 501st Legion stormed the Jedi Temple, killing hundreds of Jedi. Obi-Wan is one of the last few survivors of this terrible attack. However, this revolution is not over yet, as Palpatine sends Anakin to kill the Separatist envoys and ambassadors who represent the Separatists. Obi-Wan then goes to Mustafar to convince Anakin to end his practice in the dark side. He doesn't listen. They end up dueling each other over the rivers of lava on Mustafar. Meanwhile, Yoda confronts Palpatine in his office and nearly kills him. After a harsh battle, Obi-Wan gets the high ground and chops off Anakin's limbs, causing him to get burnt alive. Obi-Wan goes back to his ship. Palpatine then goes to rescue him, although Anakin is severely burnt and injured, so he must be taken to a hospital. He then transforms into Darth Vader. Anakin did all of this because he loved Padme and didn't want her to die, but then Padme died in childbirth that day due to Anakin's force choking her. This ended the Grand Army of The Republic and started the dark shadow of the Galactic Empire. Obi-Wan takes Padme’s son Luke to Tatooine to live with Anakin’s relatives and Leia to Alderaan to live with the royal family. Obi-Wan hides, changing his name to “Ben,” and lives in a remote place. Yoda goes to Dagobah to live in hiding, similar to Obi-Wan. Darth Vader goes on to expand his empire by scattering troops all around the galaxy and building a space station capable of destroying planets. My overall opinion of this book is that it is an exceptional book. The movie adaptation is good, but this puts much more detail into the book and adds more emotion, in my opinion. I recommend reading this book if you want a better-detailed interpretation of the movie. The entire point of the book is to emphasize the story more than the movie adaptation, making it more comprehensive and accurate.
Just the Right Amount of Twist
By Maria Nikolopoulos
Twisted Love by Ana Huang is a fantastic book. I recommend it for ages 13+ because it contains more adult language and some sensitive topics.
It is about a girl named Ava Chen, who is twenty-two. She’s a ball of sunshine, always happy, brilliant, and always on top of her game. She does anything she puts her mind to and completes at the end of the day.
The other main character is Alex Volkov. He’s twenty-six and has an angel face, one of the most handsome people you would see. He has the face of a goddess, as Ava states. Still, he has the temper of the devil; he's a rich, successful man and a colder type towards women, the complete opposite of Ava.
One of the other main characters is Josh Chen, Ava’s older brother, who is twenty-eight. He has his book Twisted Hate by Ana Huang as well. The book is more about how Ava and Alex fall in love and stop hating each other. However, it is perilous since Alex is Josh's best friend, so it looks terrible if Ava goes for him. Alex and Ava don’t care and continue to love each other until Josh finds out. At the end of the story, they have kids: Olkov, Sofia, and Niko. I would rate this book a 10/10 since I keep re-reading it and fall more in love each time. I also enjoyed plenty of other books from Ana Huang, including the rest of the Twisted series.
Bridge to Terabithia Teaches a Sad Lesson in Loss
By Layla Silvera
There was a boy named Jess Aaron who lived with four sisters; two were older, and two were younger. He also wanted to be the fastest runner in the fifth grade. He committed to being the fastest runner, so he practiced every day. Finally, when the summer was over, he stepped on the field and was ready. Then, a girl named Leslie Burke came along. She raced with the guys and beat them. Then they became close at that point and made a secret place called Bridge to Terabithia. They loved that place. Until a very dark surprise happens to Jess. The recommended reading age is nine years old. I think you need to be nine because it does have an unexpected death. Also, you need to be mature for that sort of thing. Some books the author wrote were. Who am I, Liddie, and The night of his birth? She has won twice with the Newbery medal. She has also won two National Book Awards. Most people have said that Bridge to Terabithia is a great movie and one of the best books I have ever read. Some people say I despised this book, but most people said that they love the book so much, and in some parts of it, it made them cry. This book can be compared to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants because this book is about friendship but not as sad. Bridge to Terabithia is a fantastic book and an unfortunate book, too. It almost made me cry. It is a very wholesome book with tragedy and friendship. If you want a sad book filled with friendship, this is for you.
