New School, New Things
By Solon Jones
Being at a new school can be challenging. But, having a fresh start to get to know new, interesting people can be excellent and fun. I have experienced being at a new school many times. It is always refreshing to make connections with others. Some things are more trendy at a new school than where you previously came from. Many things can ensure you find good friends.
Here are some tips:
- Be yourself
- Try to meet new people
- Don’t judge people right away
- Introduce yourself
- Don’t try to be a class clown or do unsmart things
- Get to know everyone around you, including teachers, security, and students.
Overall, Being new at a school can be annoying, but when you use these tips, it can make it easier. Make sure you are how you always are, and keep your personality as is, as you will find people who like you for you and surround yourself with the right group that can bring out the best in you.
Top Instruments to Learn
by Eli Yaghoubi
Are you interested in playing for the school band? Choosing an instrument is often tricky. This list should help you select your instrument when joining a band or orchestra.
Percussion/drums. Do you want to make loud noises and have one of the most essential instruments for the band's sound? Also, if you are nervous about putting your mouth on something or want a relatively easy instrument to play, this is the one to choose
Trumpet. Do you want to play parts that very few play and have some solos? Well, this is for you. Additionally, there are very few trumpet players in the band, and we need more, so playing the trumpet at BVMS won't only be fun, but everyone needs you.
Clarinet. Do you want to play an instrument that is one of the most popular? Well, the clarinet is for you! There are so many clarinet players at BVMS that the clarinets take up most of one entire locker space in the band room.
Alto Saxophone. This is a great instrument if you already know how to play piano. It's a great transition instrument that bridges more complex versions of saxophone, like the tenor and baritone, and it can even help if you want to get good at the bassoon.
Violin. For those who like classical music or want to look smart, this is an instrument for you. It's one of the most popular instruments in orchestra at BVMS. Did you know that the violin bow is made of horsehair?
Double bass. This is one HUGE instrument that stays in the orchestra room because it's way too large to go home. It would help if you sat to play the double bass, so you won't have to stand up during performances.
Tuba. How would you like to be a soloist? In the BVMS band, tuba players often are scarce and have at least one solo.
Flute. Would you like to play an angelic portion of songs? If so, this instrument is for you. It is a challenging instrument, but if you want a good challenge, go for it.
Bassoon. There is one bassoon in the entire bedroom. It is one of the best-sounding instruments, but you need alien fingers to play it. Unfortunately, this year, we don't have a bassoon player.
Euphonium. Are you interested in playing an instrument resembling the tuba without the heavyweight? Try to check out the euphonium.

Three Ways to Increase the Money You Have
By Eli Yaghoubi
Students get money for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. Usually, it’s spent on video games, sports, and food. However, what if there was a way to turn your money into more money? Here are three ways to increase your cash.
Savings account. This is an account that you can open at a bank. According to Bank of America, savings accounts have an interest rate of .04%. This means if you put $100 in this type of account, after one year, you get 4 cents for a total of $100.04.
CD account. This is a particular account that you can open at a bank. However, you cannot take out your money for some time. For example, some CD accounts are good for six months, 12 months, or more. According to Bank of America, you can open a CD account for 12 months with an interest rate of 5%. This means if you put $100 in this type of account, after one year, you get $5 for a total of $105.
US T Bill. This is a particular account that you can open online. You are letting the federal government borrow your money. The good part about this type of account is that you get your interest back in advance. It is similar to a CD account in that you choose a period from a list like 13 weeks, 26 weeks, and 52 weeks. You cannot remove your money, just like a CD account. According to www.treasurydirect.gov, you can put your money in a 52-week treasury bill and get 5.34% interest. If you put $100 in this type of account, you get $5.34 on day one, which is very good.
If you don’t need to use your money immediately, the CD account or Treasury bill is where you can get the most money. If you want to get your interest ahead of time, the T Bill would be my pick.

Gundam Is The Best Model kit
By Jian Jung
Gundam is the best model Kit. It is because, first of all, It is 100% already colored. For other model kits, you usually have to color it. Moreover, if you have to color it, you must buy paints and markers. However, Gundam is already colored.
Secondly, Gundams require NO GLUE! Other model kits you have to add other model kits very delicately and add glue very slowly. If you add it roughly, or the slightest bit indelicately, it would be ruined, and you would be unfortunate.
Thirdly, Gundams are straightforward to take out. You can pop them out without any nippers. Gundams are very easy to take out, and they are fantastic to pose. They are very highly posable. They can be posed very quickly, and their joints are great.
Overall, Gundams are tremendous and would be a great present to anyone you know.

Top Electives at BVMS
By Eli Yaghoubi
How do you choose your electives? With over 40 electives at BVMS, it is hard to choose just two. The good news is that you can’t go wrong with any of the options. My suggestion is to choose classes that get you excited based on your hobbies and interests.
Here are the top 10 choices
Journalism is the best elective in the world. Believe it or not, you learn much about time management in this class. Also, students in this elective write for the school newspaper, which is fantastic and productive. Most importantly, it is taught by a very kind teacher at BVMS, Mrs. Daniela Taylor.
Band is an excellent elective because you can play an instrument for the school band. Once a student is in the advanced band, they even get to go on fun trips to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. Students play at a BHHS football game together with the high school band. Additionally, playing an instrument is a valuable skill that will last a lifetime.
Entrepreneurs. This class is entertaining, learning how to make money and learn valuable life skills taught by a fantastic teacher, Mr. Jaime Tintor.
Stem Robotics is a fantastic class for those with an interest in robots. But even if you are not interested in robotics, this is a fun class that can open many opportunities worth trying out, as it’s only one semester long.
Stem Engineering. Stem engineering is a lot like robotics, except it is supposed to be less hands-on. You learn about engineering and build a toy prototype for children.
Art is an elective where students create 2D and 3D pieces of art. Students interested in taking Advanced Art next year must take this class first.
Photography is a great class! Who does not like taking pictures? In this class, you learn how to take photos with professional cameras and iPhones and sometimes even leave the classroom to take pictures.
Spanish. Who does not want to learn a foreign language? In this elective, students learn how to read, write, and speak Spanish. If you start this elective in 6th grade, you can take Spanish three honors as a first-year student in high school.
Coding. Do you want to learn how to code? Students use a unique website called Codesters that teaches them how to code. The teacher doesn’t expect students to know about programming before signing up.
Hebrew. This is a new elective that was introduced this year. Those interested in learning how to read, write, and speak the language of the bible should sign up for this.
