Banaras Hindu University was founded in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, a great nationalist leader. The university has produced many great freedom fighters and builders of modern India and has immensely contributed to the progress of the nation through a large number of renowned scholars, artists, scientists and technologists who have graced its portals. The main campus of the university spread in 1300 acres comprises 5 Institutes, 140 Departments, 4 Interdisplinary Centers and a constituent Womens College. University’s another campus in a nearby district of Mirzapur covers an area of 2700 acres. The University family consists of about 27000 students, about 1700 teachers, and nearly 8000 non-teaching staff. The university has taken a leadership role in promoting new ideas, the spirit of integration of the world, and cultivation of intellect and culture.
