My name is Charlie, and, as of right now (May 2026), I am a graduating senior at Beverly High School. I have ran Track and Cross Country for the past four years at BHS. My past four years of high school have been filled with many impactful memories both good and bad, but most of the positive ones have come from my time as a runner. And while I can confidently look back and say that I loved running for BHS, I wasn't always so self-assured. As an incoming freshman, I haphazardly signed up for Cross Country, not really knowing what I was getting myself in to. I only knew a few other freshman on the team, and I hadn't ran more than two miles in my whole life. Practice started in late August, and by the end of that week, I was ready to quit. There were many tormented questions swirling in my brain, but one in particular was much louder than the others. Is it always going to be this hard? But I didn't quit, and soon found out that the answer was no.As the temperature cooled, and I became more conditioned, the runs became much easier. But it wasn't just my body that was adapting to this sport, it was also my mind. I learned how to train properly, and recover properly, but more than that, I became part of a community. I began building friendships with other teammates, many of which I consider to be some of my best friends today. I learned about different lore from running loops and race courses, inside jokes, funny stories, and since then, have taken part in creating my own experience alongside my teammates.
The point is, running for Beverly High School has given me a drive in life, and made me feel connected to something larger than myself. I am creating this website in order to share at least a fraction of my experience with you. I hope that this website will help to clear up most of the uncertainties that you may have coming in to this sport, and prevent the trial and error that I went through as a new runner (although there will always be some, and it's all about embracing change). I also hope that hearing about my experience will get you excited for the upcoming XC season, and maybe even the track and XC seasons beyond! Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to jump around to any area that you might be interested in by using the table of contents in the top right.
