The GL IMC will be staffed with NHS tutors daily before school from 7:15 - 7:45 am and during lunch. No appointment is necessary. Just sign into the IMC. NHS members will be present with a sign indicating what subject(s) they tutor.
Please click the appropriate department link below to access a directory of NHS tutors, the courses they tutor in that department, their school email address, and their potential availability during study hall.
GL students seeking assistance can reach out directly to these members to request an appointment during study hall, before school, or during lunch.
Please understand that this list does not guarantee the availability of the NHS tutor every single day. Students looking for regularly scheduled tutoring should complete the one-on-one tutoring request below.
Please click the "Click to Request a One-on-One Appointment with an Honor Society Tutor" button at the bottom of this page if you have a one-on-one tutoring request for students in grades 6-12 who has an @bhpsnj.org email account. If you are requesting a tutor for multiple subjects, please complete a separate form for each subject.
Honor Society tutors provide tutoring in specific subjects. Unfortunately, we are unable to assist with "general homework completion." Please request a specific subject that you need assistance in.
We will make every effort to accommodate your request, but please understand that Honor Society members are students that have other obligations (coursework, extracurricular/athletics, family, employment, etc.) and are not as readily available as private tutors. As such, Honor Society tutors are expected to meet with tutees no more than once a week for one hour. Additionally, it is expected that the tutee will adjust his/her schedule to match the availability of the volunteer Honor Society tutor. Unfortunately, our program will not work for you if you require additional tutoring outside of these conditions.
Honor Society tutors are permitted to tutor one-on-one in the IMC during the school day or at either the Berkeley Heights Public Library, the Mountainside Public Library, or any mutually agreed upon public space if the appointment is outside of the school day. NHS tutors are not permitted to tutor in private residences.
Additionally, it is the parent/guardian's responsibility to provide transportation for the tutee. NHS tutors are not permitted to transport tutees to or from tutoring sessions.
One-on-one tutoring requests are only processed during the school day. It may take upwards of a week (five school days) or more for us to find an appropriate tutor to fill your request. Please understand that based on demand and available tutors, we might not be able to fulfill your request. If you made a request when school is not in session, your request will be processed when school resumes. Please do not email NHS or the NHS advisor requesting a status update on your tutoring request. The student will receive an email to their @bhpsnj.org account if and when a tutor is found.
