New to BHHS in 2019 was the Debate Club! 45 students submitted petitions in November 2019, and the School Board has approved it as a new club!
Debate meets every Thursday after school in Mr. Banwart's room from 3:00-4:00, as well as selected Study Skills periods throughout the year. There are MANY benefits of joining Debate, including...
- Learn and discuss current and classic topics that are interesting to students in a spirit of rich, intellectual inquiry and research
- Be exposed to different viewpoints and consider other points of view in mutual respect
- Build rapport and friendships with others
- Appreciate and respect differences in opinion
- Learn how to build an argument, persuade others, and become a more effective public speaker
- Be an informed citizen
- Think and adapt quickly on your feet
- Become a more well-rounded individual
- Develop a greater appreciation for free speech and civil discourse
- Be part of a youth movement to revive free speech and reasonable discussion of controversial topics in a polarized political culture
