September 2025
I'm very exited to start the school year with your students. In the first few weeks we will settle into our new routines and outline classroom expectations. A few things you can do to help your student to be successful from the start. These are things that I'm sure you are doing already. Getting enough sleep at night helps students to arrive rested and ready to learn. Being rested also helps students to regulate their emotions and be flexible in their thinking. Another thing we have noticed is that in fourth grade students are constantly hungry. Making sure they have a snack can help a lot.
We will start our year in Math with reviewing what we've learned previously about multi-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping to prepare them for multi digit multiplication and division. We will discuss different strategies and ways of thinking about these concepts and outside of the classroom it can be a bit confusing. I will be sharing an information sheet to help make sense of what they are learning before each unit as well as an answer sheet for each assignment.
The school is using an ELA curriculum called Wonders. I will try to keep you up to date with what to expect. In the meantime students will continue to be expected to read for 20 minutes a night and to reflect on this reading to help build comprehension skills. I highly encourage reading together or talking about their reading after they finish. This helps students to not only grow as readers but also to know that you see reading as an important task as well.
Your student will have science and social studies on an every other day rotation. I will be teaching Science and Mr.Daniels will teach Social Studies. We will have a few projects throughout the year that students will be encouraged to work on at home as they can but for the most part they will be given class time to complete the majority of this work. We will be going on several field trips throughout the year. Most of our field trips will be tied to a specific units in both science and social studies. We encourage you to sign up to chaperone. These trips are a lot of fun and there is always something new to learn.
My goal is to ignite your students passion for learning. I have high expectations for them and will celebrate their failures. Students cannot grow if they do not reach beyond their current understandings. If at any time you have questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me. I am happy to make time for us to meet, have a phone call, or chat over email, whichever works best for you.
