Students’ Thoughts on Michigan’s New Phone Ban

Since the cell phone ban began this year, students at Benton Harbor High School have been outraged by Michigan’s new state law, which was created because so many students are constantly on their phones, distracted during class, and focused on social media.

Students have been angry for many reasons, such as, “They can’t take our phones because they weren’t the ones who paid for it.” Or “They’re taking everyone’s phones for something not everyone is doing.” These are only a few of the thoughts students are sharing.

Students haven’t dealt with anything like this before, so they are very angry. But it may only be a matter of time before they eventually accept it as the new norm.
