Each year in the State of Missouri, children's books are selected as nominees for three main awards, the Missouri Building Block Award, the Show Me Award and the Mark Twain Award. Below you will find more information on each award. All students have an opportunity to vote for his or her favorite book.
In the recent years, Missouri has added two additional awards: Denny O'Neil Graphic Novel Award and Dogwood Award. These titles are not voted on and these books receive the award based upon the committees recommendation. More information can be found below.
Missouri Building Block Award Nominees are selected for Kindergarten aged students. All of these stories are read to the students in Kindergarten and we vote for our favorite one. Then we have to wait and see who won!
Show Me Award Nominees are selected by students in Missouri that serve on a Selector Committee. All of these stories are read to the students in grades first through third. Each student has an opportunity to vote for his or her favorite after reading or listening to six.
Mark Twain Award Nominees are selected by students in Missouri that serve on a Selector Committee. Each student has an opportunity to vote for his or her favorite after reading or listening to four.
