BGHS FCCLA Point System
The BGHS FCCLA chapter will be using a point system to keep with members attendance and participation in our chapter! Members will be notified how many points an event or fundraiser is worth prior to the event or fundraiser (this will be posted with the event in Ms. Whitis' classroom, the BGHS FCCLA instagram, and the google classroom). Ms. Whitis will enter in each members points earned after the event or fundraiser. This point system is how the chapter will determine who attends field trips based on participation within the chapter! Please see Ms. Whits with any questions!

FCCLA Competitive Events
Through participation in Competitive Events, FCCLA members acquire industry insights and employable skills required to thrive in the 21st Century. Members can select from over 50 Competitive Events that employ skills and knowledge learned through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. Competing on regional/district, state, and national levels in Competitive Events enables members to explore Career Pathways and address significant personal, work, and societal issues.
Competitive Events align with FCCLA's mission to concentrate on multiple roles, including family member, wage earner, and community leader. Each event is curated to help members develop specific lifelong skills in character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
The foundation of these events is the belief that anyone can succeed, and participation in FCCLA's Competitive Events will equip students for life after high school.
Level 1 - Members through grade 8
Level 2 - Members in grades 9 and 10
Level 3 - Members in grades 11 and 12

What are STAR Events?
Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events are Competitive Events in which members compete at the regional/district, state, and national levels. Students are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events allow students to compete individually or as a team. There are more than 30 STAR Events students can choose to compete in, all of which recognize participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities to actively identify an issue concerning families, careers, or communities, research the topic, and develop and implement a project to advocate for positive change.
STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:
Cooperative - teams work to accomplish specific goals
Individualized - an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals
Competitive - individual or team performance is measured by an established set of criteria
