Tools, apps, websites and programs that we use digitally need to protect student PII (personally identifiable information). Any digital tool that requires a log in gains access to personal information points. When selecting tools to use in instruction, teachers need to check that they are EdLaw 2-d compliant before use.
What if I find a new digital tool? How do I know if it is EdLaw 2-d compliant? What do I do if it is not?
If you find a new tool that requires a log in account, you can check to see if the item is listed as a tech tool on this website. Under each tool listed is a description of the tool and a date that the Ed Law 2-d agreement expires. If your tool is not listed, you are welcome to reach out to the company to request . The company must complete the Parent Bill of Rights document and return it. The Parent Bill of Rights ca be found below. If you do not want to reach out independently, please reach out to Greg Winn about the tool that you would like to look into using.
We are not able to acquire ed law 2-d compliance from the following tools and they should not be used:
Teach Your Monster to Read- Unable to adhere to the agreement.
Quizlet- Declines to commit to the agreement. Can not be used by students. Teachers can use it but are advised not to in order to protect their own personal information.
