The return of extra curricular activities, music and clubs is welcomed news as we begin this new school year. We are excited that clubs, activities, sport teams, bands and other extra-curriculars will be permitted this year. These activities are voluntary for our BGCDSB staff. We acknowledge and appreciate the extra time that staff contribute to make these very important activities possible. This was the number one priority amongst our students in the Thought Exchange survey.
Information about activities at each school will be provided upon the return to school. Inter-School High School Athletics are governed by Bluewater Athletic Association, CWOSSA and OFSAA . Our return to sports plans will be developed in conjunction with those guidelines. More detailed information will be provided as each sport resumes. Elementary Athletic programs will begin with intramural programs. More information around inter-school sports will be provided at a later time.
Clubs
Clubs and activities such as art clubs, chess clubs, robotics, and craft clubs etc, are permitted outdoors with physical distancing and indoors with masking and appropriate physical distancing.
Music programs will begin with the following guidance:
Music programs are permitted in areas with adequate ventilation. Singing and the use of wind instruments will be permitted:
Use of wind instruments is permitted indoors within a cohort if a minimum distance of two metres or more can be maintained. As much distance as possible should be encouraged and use of large, well-ventilated spaces should be prioritized.
Use of wind instruments is permitted outdoors in mixed cohorts with distancing encouraged.
Sharing of wind instruments is not permitted.
Singing is permitted indoors. Masking is encouraged but not required for singing indoors if a minimum distance of two metres can be maintained and with as much distancing as possible.
