The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) provides an assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematics for Ontario students. The Primary Division (Grades 1–3) tests the reading, writing and math skills students are expected to have learned by the end of Grade 3.
St. Joseph’s Grade 3s will write this test for six mornings in early June. The Grade 3 assessments will be administered using the EQAO online tool and proctored by classroom teachers. Students are given approximately one hour to complete each of the six sections of the assessment, but there is no time limit. For those students with special education needs who are on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) , they will not be writing EQAO with the main group of grade 3 students. They will be writing their test in a quiet setting with an adult scribe and technology.
The EQAO test has several multiple choice questions, short answer questions, writing prompts, and math word problems. Reading and Writing will be assessed in English for all grade 3s. Math will be assessed in French for French Immersion students.
The EQAO test results provide a snapshot of your childʼs achievement in relation to the provincial standard. Students meeting or exceeding the standard (Levels 3 and 4) have demonstrated most or all of the required reading, writing and mathematics knowledge and skills expected at this stage in their education. However, no single test can offer a complete or definitive picture of what your child has learned.
Each student who writes the assessment will receive an Individual Student Report (ISR) outlining his or her results in the fall of the next school year.
