Our school has started to implement Seesaw as our primary online platform to demonstrate and share student learning in all of the Elementary Grades.
Seesaw can be used to create ongoing student digital portfolios and give families a window into their children's learning. Teachers can also create, browse and assign activities, have a personal and school library of activities, communicate with families, assess student progress and create a class blog.
Technology Used:
Student engage in various iPad-based tech activities to support K-1 phonics intended for small group instruction using general education curriculum resources (TC Small Group Lessons, Reading A to Z, Handwriting Without Tears, etc.)
Tech. Lesson 1: Letter Seesaw Activities- Students name the letter and the letter sound. Students trace the capital and lowercase letters, repeating the sound. Students say and circle the words from the pictures that start with the target sound. Students draw a picture in the box that starts with the target sound.
Tech. Lesson 2: TC Phonics Small Group Seesaw: Teacher teaches the mini-lesson and practices the still without tech. Teacher explains and models the activity on the iPad using an attached projector or monitor. Teacher chooses 2 students to model turn-taking with the iPad. All students practice the activity once in partners without recording, before recording the final session.
Tech. Lesson 3: SMART Notebook Speaking Alphabet Activity- Teacher records their voice (or individual students voice) to attach audio sounds to each letter tile. Teacher first teaches the lesson and skill without tech. Teacher can lead the lesson using the iPad attached to a projector or monitor and having each student come up to take a turn. Students can engage with the activity on their own and spell new words. You can do a screencast if you wish to record the students completing the activity in the iPad as a final product.
