Students will earn grades in Spalding/language arts, literature, math, science, social studies, and art based on classroom assignments and tests. Benjamin Franklin Charter School has a challenging, accelerated program. Grades are updated weekly.
Grades are assigned according to the grading scale:
A = 90-100 O - Outstanding
B = 80-89 S- Satisfactory
C = 70-79 N- Needs Improvement
D = 60-69
F = 59 and below
Citizenship grades are based on the number of warnings and/or consequences a child earns during the nine-week grading period.
Penmanship grades are pulled from weekly phonogram and spelling tests and graded with the use of a Spalding penmanship rubric.
Academic Effort grades are based on the teacher’s perception of whether or not the student is working to their full potential.
Late Assignments will be graded up to five days late with a 10% deduction for each day it is late. All major assignments are given with several weeks of advance notice. late submissions after 5 days will not be accepted unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Into Math Test Corrections Policy:
The following are requirements for test corrections on Into Math module tests:
● Teachers are required to allow students who earn below a 75 on any Into Math module test, to complete test corrections.
● For accurate corrections, students will earn 50% of the original points back, up to a maximum grade of 75 for the test.
● Teachers are required to offer test correction opportunities.
● Test corrections must be completed no more than 2 school days after the test has been returned to the student.
● Test corrections can be completed at home or at school within two days after students receive the corrected test
● Test corrections must be completed on a separate piece of paper and written legibly (if the teacher cannot read it, no credit will be given).
*Students are not required to make the test corrections.
We are an accelerated school dedicated to helping each child learn and achieve their highest potential. Our program is very structured, which allows students to stay organized. A variety of student academic support programs are offered to qualified students at BFCS, including tutoring offered by your classroom teacher if your child is struggling in certain areas. Parents with concerns about their child's academic progress may reach out to me direct via email or the campus student support liaison listed below for more direction.

In third grade, the students are encouraged to read a minimum of 250 pages during each nine-week grading period.
Students, with the help of their parents, may choose literature books to suit their reading interests and abilities.
Daily reading can be recorded on a book log.
Once a book is complete, it can be entered and signed off on the reading log (see due dates below).
Parents can find both of these forms in the homework folder that will come home daily.
If the student is able to reach this goal during the nine-week grading period, there will be a reward! We also set class goals related to the number of reading pages read by the class as a whole! These incentives are designed to encourage appreciation of literature and improve comprehension and fluency for the student.
Pages read count as one reading grade per quarter.
In addition to the reading pages, each student will complete a book report each grading period (see due dates below).
Books approved for book reports should be at least 100 pages long.
Specific information regarding book reports will be sent home at the beginning of each quarter.
