Use this document to practice weekly spelling words and see what words we do by week. We practice about 30 words per week. Monday will be the first 15 words and Tuesday will be the second 15 words. Thursdays we have the in-class practice spelling test and Fridays we have the actual test.

What is the Spalding Marking System? The Spalding Marking System helps us connect our sounds to written symbols that represent those sounds.
We use underlines, numbers, brackets and syllabication to analyze the spelling and pronunciation of words.
You can print these cards to use at home with your child and practice their phonograms. These cards are designed to print on both sides when printed, so that one side has the phonogram and the backside has the way it makes the sounds to help you as the parent help guide your child.
We recommend for your child to practice phonograms daily and the weekly phonograms we are learning in class will be on the weekly Classroom Newsletter.
This is what the homework slip looks like. You can find the daily homework assigned on this slip under Spelling.
Your student needs to write their spelling words twice on the back of this sheet. You can find the current spelling words on the weekly Classroom Newsletter. We practice the first 10 words on Monday, the first 20 words on Tuesday, and all the 30 words on Wednesday. Thursday is the practice spelling test. If the student gets 100% of the practice test, they do not have to do the tesst again on Friday.
Please ask your student to do their best on their homework and if they struggle, it is ok to leave it blank or incorrect and write me a note on the yellow Homework slip to let me know so we can review in class.
Please sign the bottom of the slip daily so I know that you saw it and your child attempted to do their homework. It is all about communication!
