Response Assignment

Overview

Students must prepare a response to ONE book from the Briscoe Summer Reading list. Download/print the detailed assignment

Goal and purpose of response assignment

• Demonstrate you have read your summer reading book.
• Demonstrate you have reflected on your book.
• Provide a way to share your reading experience with other students.

Response must be:

• Labeled clearly with student's first AND last name, and the title of the book, on the piece itself and/or with a firmly attached cover page, which will be provided.
• Student's own creation.
• Legible – either typed or neatly handwritten.
• Able to be displayed or read without any technology (computer, phone, etc.).
• Reflective of, a response to, or an extension of characters, settings, or events in the book.
• Brought in on the designated day (or the next day if the student is absent).

Reminders

• Keep it "cheap and cheerful”: use household items or spend $5 or less on materials
• Note specific guidelines including length and size for your choice (turn over sheet).
• Most students should plan to spend 1-2 hours to complete the assignment; some may enjoy their project and spend a little more, but it is not necessary for a good grade as long as you fulfill requirements.
• If you read more than one book from the list, just pick your favorite and do a response for that one!
