MassDEP's Municipal Assistance Coordinators (MACs) for Northeast District 2, Gail Sowerder Garron and Northeast District 3, Julia Greene are teaming together to offer a “Best Practices for School Waste Reduction and Diversion” working group.
MassDEP Working Group Facilitators
Julia Greene is the MAC for Northeast District 3. She provides technical assistance to 36 cities and towns on waste reduction. Previously, Julia worked as the Recycling Coordinator for the city of Lynn where she piloted programs to decrease contamination; and for Mayor Henrietta Davis of Cambridge where she was responsible for the Mayor’s sustainability agenda. Much earlier in her career, Julia worked for the US Small Business Administration and was a Warranted Contracting Officer with authority to sign contracts up to $5 million.
Gail Sowerder Garron serves 39 municipalities as the MAC for Northeast District 2. She has over 20 years of experience working in the environmental field and spent 10 years as the Program Coordinator for Recycling, Energy and Water Conservation programs for the Danvers DPW. During her tenure she spearheaded numerous program improvements for waste reduction including mandatory curbside recycling, district-wide school recycling with a MassDEP grant and a recycling contamination outreach and education program.
