2023 Quads

26 players participated in the last quad of 2023. Included in the mix was a first time match between former #1 boards at Willamette HS, Owen Young-Flynn (Class of '15) and Kenneth Lamm (Class of '08). Owen won the match (pictured above).

October featured 8 full quads in the Willamette Media Center.  11 of the 32 were either former or current Bethel school students. Pictured above are players from Bethel's Willamette HS, Shasta MS and Prairie Mountain K-8 (Cascade MS was also represented).

30 players (6 quads plus a Swiss 6) kicked off the new year school year of chess at Willamette on September 17th. For the first time, all of the quads were USCF rated.

The quad winners were: Q1: Rob Fisette; Q2: Yufei Su, Q3: David Goeres; Q4: Sarah Ostrovsky and Fletcher Lohrke (2-way tie with Sarah winning the blitz off); Q5: Jiro Plaunty; Q6: Kieran Priest, Kiran Narreddy and Merle Allen (3-way tie); and Swiss6: Sebastian Alvarez-Garibay and Shaurya Narreddy  (2-way tie with Sebastian winning the armageddon blitz off). Pictured below is the 3rd round action in Quad 1 where former number 1 boards from Willamette (Kenneth Lamm) and Pleasant Hill (Caleb Kesey) squared off for the 1st time in 15 years.

46 players (10 quads plus a Swiss 6) showed up at Willamette on June 4th for the last quad of the school year. I was a little surprised by the big turnout on such a nice day. Pictured above is WHS's Gabe taking care of business in Quad 3. By the time I remembered to take pictures, many of the lower quads had already cleared out as seen below.

10 quads competed at Willamette's Media Center on May 7th.  This month youth was served with 30 scholastic players out of the 40 total.  Of the 5 quads that had adults, only 2 came out on top.

Pictured below is the first ever all Bethel middle school Quad (#9) with Cascade, Meadow View, Prairie Mountain and Shasta represented.

Probably due to spring break, things finally calmed down a little with our record breaking quad numbers.  36 players competed in April with several scholastic players getting their required games in to qualify for the OSCF Championships later this month.

There was a full house again with 10 quads in February. Since these are the Bethel quads a special shoutout to the 11 players from Bethel (most ever): 3 Cascade MS, 4 current Willamette HS and 4 former Willamette HS.

Although it may not look like it in this picture, a new record number of players was set in January with 12 quads! Pictured above are the top 3 quads finishing off their games.
