While students are at the BCTN house, they participate in social skills classes, covering topics such as internet safety, problem solving, self advocacy, healthy relationships, self management, communication, and the law/rights. These social skills topics are incorporated into the rest of the program, and students get hands on practice in many of these skills at their job sites.
Students learn social skills in many ways at BCTN. These skills come in handy at volunteer sites, like for this student, and help prepare students for social aspects of jobs in the future!
During the pandemic many of the BCTN students missed out on in person social time and attending parties. The students have enjoyed planning parties, decorating, and attending many of the fun filled moments together. Any student wishing to have a party may do so! We believe in making everyone feel special and showered with attention. Making friends and laughing together adds to a full social and emotional quality of life.
