Money management

In a classroom setting, students will be given opportunities to practice price estimation, dollar and coin identification, as well as budgeting money for their future purchases of cooking ingredients.  Students will be provided opportunities to take their estimated amount of money to the grocery store and determine the actual price and shop. Students will have opportunities to use both self-check out and cashier.  Students are guided and instructed on how to plan a healthy, but inexpensive meal. Next dollar, counting money, change, and estimation are just some of the skills that are practiced in the classroom and community. Other students may have assistance managing a portion of their social security check, online banking, bill paying, opening accounts (checking /savings) and managing their personal ledger. Students who are interested can receive class room instruction on making a monthly budget. Basic math skills are also taught on an individual basis using a Consumer Math textbook.
