Cooking

During cooking class students will learn how to follow a simple recipe, and understand the proper units of liquid and dry measurements, and follow basic kitchen safety: stove, oven, boil, simmer, bake, grill, chopping, dicing, slicing etc. Time awareness while cooking and individual personal hygiene is also stressed, as well as proper hygiene in food preparation.  In order to prepare students for potential jobs in food service, we teach students to cook using the same techniques that are required for an Oregon Food Handlers Card. All students are encouraged to try these recipes and cooking strategies at home.
