Do you love sports and working with kids? This is an opportunity to do both! In this activation, you will get the opportunity to assist with coaching needs, help with home game responsibilities such as scorekeeping, working the concession stand, serving as a sideline judge, as well as help with game set-up. We offer a variety of sports, including volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, track, and cross country. Even if you have a passion for a specific sport, we'd love to have you! We teach our kids that God values our passions. Sports is an area where our students can grow as athletes and students, build character and love for themselves and others, and learn the discipline of commitment, teamwork, and hard work. Alongside attending every Thursday, you'll also get to participate in games throughout the week.

This activation is all about hospitality, opening doors to people as they come to church, assisting at the info desk, ushering during the 10:30 am service, and actively seeking out those who are visiting for the first time and prophesying over them.

Thursdays 2:30-5:30 PM
A former student in this group once said, “It’s so exciting to see what it looks like when a city is loved in a language they perfectly understand.” In this Activation, you will get hands-on experience in blessing a city and its staff in practical ways by working in teams to maintain and improve the land we currently live in Redding! We partner with Turtle Bay Museum & Exploration Park to assist with their grounds upkeep, development in their plant nursery, clearing of blackberry bushes, mulching the walkways, cleaning the Sundial bridge, and much more. If you are interested in loving our city and the people who work in it in a hands-on way, this activation is for you! From chainsaw training to raking leaves to praying over city land while we work, we are transforming Redding one workday at a time.
Thursday PM, Saturday AM, or Saturday PM
Exodus Farms uses formerly neglected or abused horses to serve 140+ at-risk children who have been through abuse, neglect, or trauma. As the kids work with the horses, they learn the truth that no one is permanently broken - we can all find new hope, healing, and purpose for our lives. As an activation volunteer at Exodus Farms, you will assist with group riding sessions (working one-on-one with a child and a horse, directed by a session leader) and farm chores (stall and pasture cleaning, weeding, feeding horses, etc.) This activation is very physically active - you will be on your feet, walking our large sand arena and our 14 acre property, for the vast majority of your time here. Experience with horses is preferred, but not required.

Thursdays 3:00-5:30 PM
Foster Shasta is a ministry to local resource and adoptive families. It is our endeavor to foster meaningful connections that contribute to the success of these families as they answer the call of God. "True spirituality that is pure in the eyes of our Father God is to make a difference in the lives of the orphans..." James 1:27. Foster Shasta is dedicated to building community among resource and adoptive families. We provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support. We work to promote awareness of the need for more resource and adoptive families in Shasta County. As a volunteer, you will join others laboring to restore the mountain of family. Parents who foster and adopt have many demands placed on them. Every day, they heroically rise to the challenges they face. It is estimated that about half of those who are fostering quit in their first year. By coming alongside these families with valuable support, we are partnering with them to answer God's call. When a volunteer enters one of these homes, the parents feel "seen" and encouraged because others value their work. Their children receive the message that they are worth knowing. Volunteers engage children in various fun and creative activities. They also complete a variety of household tasks as requested by the parents. Most importantly, our volunteers carry Jesus into the homes they serve.
*Times vary depending on family and a background check is required.
Wednesday AM or Friday PM
Hope City knows that positive adult relationships with at-risk youth can change the course of their lives, and in turn, the long-term health of their communities. By being a part of our mentoring groups you can help stop a negative cycle of trauma and poverty. Many Shasta county children being raised in single-parent homes or difficult home situations face unique challenges. They are less likely to graduate high school or college, more likely to use drugs and alcohol, and more likely to have mental health problems. The breakdowns in families often later lead to further breakdowns in society. But having an adult mentor makes a difference to at-risk youth. According to Standtogether.org, a mentor increases a student's likelihood of attending college by 50 percent. Youth in a mentor program are also 46 percent less likely to use drugs and 27 percent less likely to use alcohol. Being a mentor makes a BIG difference! What Hope City Mentoring does is provide several local public schools with groups of mentors to run character development groups on their campuses. There are approximately 5 BSSM per group that would have the opportunity to build relationships with the local students over the year. You will be bringing hope, encouragement, self value, value for others and helping train them in general life skills. You will receive a weekly breakdown of a topic/activity to help run the group. Here is a glimpse of some of the topics that will be covered throughout the year. Core values (personal respect) Healthy relationships Communication skills Emotional wheel Restorative/ justice practices Boundaries/Bullies Hope training/dream board/goal setting Team building Self worth and empathy towards others Making a positive impact in my environment You will see a great impact by the end of your year serving here! You will be able to find ways that you can share your own life's journeys in a creative and engaging way. You will find your heart enlarged towards the youth that we serve by the relationships that are formed. You will grow and learn not only from your team but from the students themselves..It is a true honor to serve our community in this way. Thank you for considering being a part of the Hope City Mentoring activation. Please Note: There will be mandatory hour and a half training, team connect and prayer, one Friday morning a month as part of this activation. Groups will run either Wednesday morning or Friday Midday This activation is in the public school system so there is no "traditional evangelism"
*Monthly meetings once a month on Thursday afternoons from 2:30-4:30 pm & a background check is required.
Thursdays 5:00-8:30 PM
We are a ministry for people who have found freedom and/or seeking freedom from addictive tendencies. It is also for family members who have been affected by addiction. We are here to support students in the school environment with a supernatural alternative to the normal 12-step meetings. We meet weekly and share testimonies, have a time of worship, and then have speakers. We even sometimes have small groups and family nights where we share a meal and play games. If you have a heart for freedom, then this is the ministry for you! We also support Free Laundry Day twice a month and a homeless camp on Friday nights.
Sundays 10:00 AM-12:30 PM
Our Mission is to restore hearts and minds and transform our city through social advocacy and discipleship that meets individuals where they are at. We believe in our city and the power of Holy Spirit and the authority of Jesus to transform and heal both immediately through prayer and in the walking out of the manifest love of Jesus Christ to the broken hearted through our discipleship and service. Through the transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ we are serving some of the most overlooked and broken in our community. We have hundreds who walk through our doors each month looking for hope, freedom, and to be accepted, in this we have seen the Light House become a bridge to a new life and are so thankful for the lives that God is transforming. We aim to create an atmosphere of family, whether homeless, addicted to drugs, or in cycles of abuse and trauma; we want you know you are seen and heard and greatly loved, instilling the value and worthiness into each heart we meet. We love to serve food on a weekly basis because we believe God's children should not go hungry. We invite individuals from every race, background, faith, and gender to come and participate in the restoration of hearts and advocate for those in need of justice.
Fridays 3:00-5:30 PM
Join the Movement to Transform Our City! Be a part of something truly remarkable by helping to revitalize 15 acres of riverfront property right in the heart of Redding! This oasis, nestled along the banks of the Sacramento River, is more than just land—it's a beacon of hope and beauty, purchased to restore our city and create a vibrant space for community and connection. What was once overrun by homeless camps and littered with debris has been cleared and cleaned, but our work is far from finished. As BSSM students, you have the incredible opportunity to engage in ongoing transformation efforts. This is more than just a cleanup—it's about building relationships, reaching out, and making a tangible difference. Together, we'll maintain the property, connect with those in need, and see people ‘at Hope’ rather than ‘at Risk.’ Local businesses are already inspired by the changes, filled with hope for what our city can become. As we work, we’ll also worship and declare victory over Redding, proclaiming all that our city is destined to be. Join us each week to worship, connect, and bring hope to our city! Let’s explore creative ways to use this land as a blessing to Redding and our community. This is your chance to be a part of Redding’s transformation—together, we can make a lasting impact!
Thursdays 3:00-5:30 PM

Fridays 10:00 AM-1:00 PM
We get to experience the joy of watching people who are unsheltered join with members of the community and receive the healing aspects of music and arts. Homeless musicians, still in possession of their chosen instrument, come to practice and begin to join in with others and everything shifts;, performing opportunities open up, sometimes housing opens up and their life takes a shift for the better. There is a connection time, activities involving movement and song that will serve to awaken people to the joy and freedom of music. Musicians, some professional and some without housing, will all benefit from a new measure of purpose and meaning.
Thursdays 3:00-6:00 PM

Join us as we share the love of Jesus with women who have already decided to make change in their lives by partnering with a local, established drug and alcohol recovery center. Each week we will meet with women in the residential recovery program at Visions of the Cross in Redding, focusing on connection, encouragement, and making room for Jesus to touch hearts and transform lives. The goal of Visions of the Cross is to see every person in their care encounter Jesus and know the power of His cross as they experience freedom from substance abuse. This ministry has a long history of partnership with BSSM Activation teams, and you can expect to have opportunities to step out of your comfort zone each week. Our focus is on simplicity and love, and we also take opportunities to share from our own stories, preach the gospel, pray for the sick, practice words of knowledge, exercise the prophetic, and much more. If you have a heart for the vulnerable and "the least of these", if recovery is a part of your story or close to your heart, or if you want to receive more than you give, we would love for you to join our team.
*Women only!
