The Tauranga waka, Te Awanui, can be found in it's rennel house on The Strand. It was built from a 300 yr old kauri tree and is used as Tauranga's ceremonial waka on occasions such as Queen Elizabeth's visit.
The Gate Pa Battle Site is the location of Tauranga's first war between the British and the local Maori. The Maori and British both fought each other on 29th of April 1864. If you go to the Gate Pa battle site you will be able to have a picnic under the huge trees. Also you can have walk on the walkway and learn about the history about the site.
The mission cemetery is the oldest European burial ground. It also has some of the most famous people from Tauranga history buried there, such as Alfred Brown and Henare Taratoa. Nowadays it is a tranquil place to visit and learn about our local history.
The elms is a missionary house that was used by the british in the wars against the Māori it is a wonderful place to visit and it is also used for weddings and functions and also you can have a garden tour where you can visit places like the church and libary next to the house.
